My Brother in law and I went out on Living on Island Time the Friday after Thanksgiving, instead of waiting in line at the store we were dropping fishing lines! It was a great choice, from beginning to end the experience was outstanding. The boat was clean, modern, and according to the mate had just been serviced so it was ready to go. Surprisingly, it was only about half full of guests which was fine with us. We went North of the inlet and drifted for mahi, the captain put us right on the fish and within 5 minutes we had several in the boat. I caught a nice cow (female) mahi and knew lunch was covered! The captain was right along side all of the anglers and was very informative and helpful, he even gaffed my fish and brought in on board. The ride there and back was smooth even though it was a little windy and choppy. Once a spot got cold, the captain relocated and kept us on the fish, a lot of other boats just stay in one spot. It was a wonderful day on the water. I found out I had the biggest catch of the day, the mate fileted the fish for me and it fed my whole family a perfect lunch. I can't say enough great things about the boat and crew, I will be going out again soon and highly recommend Living on Island Time!
Fished Living On Island Time with my son and dad on May 4th for the first time and had so much fun, my girlfriend and I came back to fish May 23rd. We all had the same experience---We all had a great time! I'm the more experienced on party boats, but my father, GF and son are good fisherman, but not so much on party boats. There definitely WERE regulars on board, but that didn't stop the two mates and Captain from giving us all pointers on how to drift fish correctly (showed us how the reel worked, how to tell when we hit bottom, and how to strike back when we got bit), seemed to attend to everyone (35 on board both days!) equally, and we're pretty talkative to all. Heck, we didn't even have to bait our own hooks or even take the fish off...they do it for you! Now that's service!! Also, my big 12 pound bonito wrapped up lines pretty bad that first day (sorry everyone on board, but that was fun for me!), but the mates cleared the lines quickly and got us all fishing in minutes. I wasn't there early to board the boat, but I do like the fact that they board based on how early you are there at the dock (you're given tickets for your arrival time), so the early bird tends to get the place on the boat that you prefer...even the novice, who gets there early, could be number one and get the back or front of the boat (seemed to be a favorite spots). Funny thing is, both days, the winners of the big fish pool came from the center of the boat! That was cool, I thought.I personally had a fun time fishing on Living on Island Time, felt the crew did great for everyone on board, and my family caught a smattering of triggerfish, about 10 Yellowtail Snapper, a few rainbow runners, a coupla' Mangrove snappers, a non-keeper Kingfish and that bonito...all-in-all, everyone had smiles when we got back to the dock both days. I didn't learn the name of the Captain, but he kept looking for hungry fish and I look forward to going again when we have some more time off. This is the boat I would choose, most definitely!
My boyfriend, his 19 year-old son, and I just enjoyed another great fishing trip on Living on Island Time!! We drive approximately 300 miles one way at least once a month to go fishing on this boat. Yes, they are that good! The captains and mates are very experienced, extremely attentive, and take care of your needs immediately. You don't have to ask them to help you, they are already there taking care of whatever needs to be done, be it re-baiting your hook, re-rigging your line, or getting a tangle out. If the fish don't happen to be biting in a particular spot, they will move to another spot. The owner of this boat is a second generation captain who learned to fish from his father, and served as mate on his father's boat. Additionally, he dives these waters so he knows what is down there, and he shares all of this information, all of the hot spots, with the other captains who run his boat. The boat is big and very clean and has a nice cold air conditioner in the cabin which will become important as the summer months come upon us. Capt. John and his lovely wife Sandy, who own and operate this boat and its sister boat, The Southern Comfort 4, are to be commended. We give them our very highest recommendation. In fact, we are fishing with them again tomorrow and will do so again in early July! We can't wait!
I cannot begin to say how outstanding fishing on the Island Time! was for myself. I have fished many drift boats in the area and I will say this was by far the best operated boat hands down! Never did I have to wait for my hook to be baited, even though I know how, the mates insisted to help. Other boats I have been on are to commercial and this boat was by far nothing like that. They always put the customers on fish and not just park outside the inlet. The captain moved the boat to find the fish if need be. I will say I have found my favorite boat to go on and can' wait to head back out every weekend for a great time, good humor and lots of fish on the Island Time! Well done crew!
My boyfriend and I are locals and have gone on many trips but I must say Living on Island Time and the Southern Comfort have been the best two trips I have been on. My boyfriend will forever be thankful because I'm now "hooked" :) Thank you captain John, Sandy and crew!!!!!
Having been fishing since I was 7 to find John and Sandra and their boats SOCO and LOIT was a great catch. Today at 61my eyes don't function as when I was younger and the service John and his team of captains and mates offers is unprecedented in South Florida. These people care about their customers experience. The boats are the cleanest and best maintained ships in the tri-county area. The staff is professional and responds instantaneously to customer needs. Since my vision is deteriorated the support they offer is great and always service me as if I'm their only customer. they take that approach to everyone which makes theses boats "more then just a good time".
I have fished on both the Living on Island time and the Southern Comfort IV (both boats are run by the same owners) for three years. Absolutely the best drift fishing in this particular area of Florida and with more than 70 years of experience, you are getting the very best. In addition, the captains and the crews are friendly, highly professional, always there to help, teach, and encourage you. This is great boat for families, first time fisherman, and those that expert in drift fishing. The operation is run “hands on” by the owners with attention to detail and with a smile. One other quick point, if you want to fish on Living on Island and you have a specific spot you would like to fish –get there early, as is the case with all these types of fishing boats it is first come first serve with respect to spots on the rail. That said, it really does not matter that much, with the help of the mates and the captain, if the fish are biting, you will catch and enjoy yourself. The best way to put it is that it is a family atmosphere with experts at the helm. If you are in area, I highly recommend you take the time to fish on the Living on Island Time, you will not be disappointed. Andrew D. Grossman
A group of friends and I have fished on this boat a bunch of times since they started and we have a great time every time!!! The captains and crew are knowledgable and always make sure you are having a good time. The boat is newer and it really seems like they take very good care of it. We tell everyone we know to fish on Island Time!!!
Just got back from vacationing in the area and had a great time, This was the fourth time in three years to this area and I have fished off all three drift boats available. "living on Island Time" was the best trip out. I am a novice deep water fisherman and the folks on the boat were extremely helpful and patient. The boat was very stable and more pleasant than the other boats. I will be back and plan on spending more time on this boat. Best value for my money also.
Just wanted to say that the review by live2fishtoday is a load of crap and most likely was written by a competitor. We have found both Living on Island Time and Southern Comfort Charters to be the newest, cleanest, drift boats in this area. They are staffed by wonderful professional captains and crews and provide unparalleled service. You will never see any of this crew just standing around John and Sandy are to be commended for the group they have put together. We have been using them since the beginning and have never had anything but great times and good fishing! Captain Eric is our favorite but everyone is just great and that is the absolute truth! We highly recommend them to everyone for a great time. David & Nisa LaForestLantana Florida
This trip was a waste of money for me and my friends. The boat is brand new and is located in a boatyard so you really need to watch where you park. My friends car was covered with paint over-spray and dust when we got back from fishing on this boat. She got "You should've parked upwind" for an answer when we asked them about what happened and got nowhere with the boatyard management. Fishing was horrible, but that is fishing. The crew was talking and joking with their regular fishermen who must go out alot because they got either the very front or very back of the boat. The boat was very wet and they us crammed into this little cabin with 20 other people for 30 minutes as they took us to the fishing grounds, we weren't aloud outside at the back of the boat because the "regulars" were there. The captain was an arrogant little man who enjoyed making rude comments. He was conversing with some of his "regular" fishermen who spoke spanish. What they didn't know is that I can speak and understand the language myself. They were talking about two of my friends who happen to be female and just saying all kinds of rude stuff. It was hard to bite my tongue but I did. Meanwhile the mate took care of the regulars and his girlfriend and it seemed that any tangles that happened were our fault, even though it was the other fishermen who were reeling in! One of my friends caught a big snapper and we paid extra to play in a big fish tournament. When we got back to the dock, they gave the winnings to the mates girlfriend because she had the second biggest snapper and because the mate had to "help" my friend reel her fish in so that made it not count. All in all, the customer service was horrible, the parking very substandard and the only thing I can say is that we out on a brand new boat to have a bad time. There are other boats in the area with better service and are more affordable.
