We've visited the Florida Botanical Gardens --probably 4-5 times so far. Each time, we come away with great appreciation and respect. (1) This place has no admission charge. There are a lot of places in Florida that are wonderful, but exorbitant admission charges make those places inaccessible to a great portion of the population. Florida Botanical Gardens IS accessible, thanks to their generosity.(2) The gardens (both manicured, and natural) are simply amazing: The trees, the flowers, the fruit trees, the landscaping... it takes ALOT of work to maintain this place, and my family and I appreciate the educational aspect as well as the nature outing it provides. Our last visit was about 2 weeks ago, just after the few days of unseasonably COLD weather. Freezing nighttime temperatures had burned a lot of the flowers, but there were still so many more flowers to enjoy. If you enjoy nature, long walks, exotic fruit trees, and flowers, PLEASE go and visit this place! It will do wonders for your blood pressure!!
Perhaps you were lost. Let us know and we can provide your with directions. We have a marvelous collection of tropical and native plants and flowers, all maintained by a fabulous group of volunteers. It seems odd that your experience differed so much from the other TripAdvisor reviews.
Spent the afternoon at Heritage Village (which is a part of FL Botanical Gardens) with the grandkids. The docents were amazing....really engaged the kids, were patient, and willing to answer their questions. The kids were shown how to use the cash register in the general store and then given the opportunity to try it themselves. The gentleman who was the docent for the Booth house was just wonderful. (I don't recall his name, but he did share with us that he was a quilter....that should narrow it down!) Our grandkids really enjoyed their visit and there was NO ADMISSION FEE.
Lots of flowers even in Feb. lots of gardens and several nice ponds. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy nature. Bridges and board walks and some animals to see. Quiet place to walk and relax.
Over the few years we have been visiting Florida, we have seen continual improvements. From the first it was a delightful place to walk and enjoy nature, but it is wonderful to see the expansions of some area and plants and the upgrading of some of the areas. There are several sections with their specialty. One of the unique things about this garden, is the habitat for many different birds. There are nesting boxes to promote the increase of population of some that were getting scarce, and they are accomplishing that. Only disappointment; haven't yet seen an alligator in the ponds with the warning signs! It is open on Saturdays, but the welcome center with bathroom and gift shop is not.
Thanks for visiting. Winter is a great time to visit! Choose a day when the sun is shining and you won't be disappointed. Also be aware that the Gardens are open every day, Heritage Village is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
I happened to see a listing for the Tropical Gardens so we drove about 30 minutes to check it out. It was a glorious adventure among the lush plants and trees that are so magnificently presented along the walkways. We hoped to see the gator but it was too shy to come out. We loved it and will return. Anyone in the area should visit and best of all it is free.
This is a wonderful garden to visit. You can spend several hours strolling through the gardens, visiting the Heritage Village and walking the trails. It is wonderful that this garden is free and allows you to bring your dog on a leash with you. This is a regular place that I visit year round. In December there is a special event Christmas light fund raiser where the gardens is lit up at night with many beautiful Christmas lights.
Can you say Free.... Best place for a nice walk and enjoy the area filled with natural fla botanicals. Love this place and enjoy visiting.
This jewel appears to be unknown to visitors. Been coming to the area for 7 years and just heard about it. Had we more time, we would have planned a picnic and a full day to explore.
Convenient parking. Excellent presentation of plants. The birds also enjoy the gardens. The gardens can also be rented for a special occasion. We would return here. A nice, pleasant place to relax and walk around.
The Botanical Garden is a must see for anyone who loves nature's beauty and serenity. It has something for everyone. The Garden is open all year and free to walk from 7am until dark. Within the grounds are 17 different gardens. Butterfly, Azaleas, Rose, Cactus, Herb and Palm are just a few. There is a Wedding garden that can be booked. Along the multiple paths are benches and tables for viewing and eating. We were lucky to have an alligator sunning himself less than 5 feet away. We visited in the winter (Feb.) It was still worth it. We spent 2 hours enjoying the displays and can not wait to visit again in the summer. The area is well taken care of by volunteers. The rest rooms were clean and fresh. The visitors center full of pictures, brochures and people ready to help you. Largo/Florida should be very proud of this gem. Don't miss it.
Beautiful gardens and nature walk that is calming and peaceful. It offers beautiful lighting in December for holidays and is a local favorite for weddings in the rose garden. My daughter was married there in April. It is, however, very hot from May to September. This could be a problem for some.
These gardens have something for everyone. There are different themed areas. It is free to walk through. A nice place to see florida's beauty. There is a small gift shop.
The Florida Botanical Garden is an exciting discovery; a quiet, beautiful refuge in the heart of Largo. You cross a bridge over a small stream and suddenly you are surrounded by beautiful palms and a host of native and exotic plants. The Gardens are neat, clean and constantly attended by an army of volunteers. The price of admission is zero: it is a county park; truly the best value in Pinellas County.Don't miss the wedding gardens, the vines, the butterfly garden, the nature path, and the children's trail, complete with musical instruments for children of all decades.Bathrooms are available. There is no food concessionaire except on special occasions.A lovely gift shop offers botanical themed, well selected and well-priced items.Experts at the adjacent County Extension Service will answer all of your botanical questions. If you love plants and the outdoors, this attraction is not to be missed.Bring your camera!!
