Bill Bunting was the person on-hand the day I visited and he was most helpful in his recollections of Madison in the 20th century. And you could spend hours poring over the many articles preserved from the past. Definitely a vintage find!
The history of Madison Florida. The museum has objects that soldiers have donated from world war 1 , world war 2, Korea, and Vietnam, as well as military uniforms and other military objects. It has objects from the old south, which include Civil war objects. It has old antiques from Madison`s past. A great walk back in time for the little country town.
A local newspaper publisher and friend of mine had meandered for about an hour through the undisturbed rural Florida countryside arriving at Madison, Florida to explore a treasure trove of rare and antiquarian books on a pleasant Saturday afternoon. While we learned the rare book repository had closed Saturday afternoons, we ventured down main street to a corner museum of sorts known as the Treasures of Madison county. Anyone with even the slightest interest in what Floridians from an earlier time experienced, will be amazed at the trove of well documented and carefully preserved original artifacts depicting important and historical links to past generations of local pioneer families and their descendants. Even our friendly and informed host at the museum was a descendant of early families who settled in the neighboring community of Greenville. In a fitting example of the courtesy still found in many smaller rural Florida communities, our museum host called the proprietor of the rare book depository, and she was patient and kind enough to open the store after closing, and let us browse for the ensuing two hours. I am certain if you venture over to Madison, Florida you'll realize as we did, that the time there was well spent! Oh, you may want to patronize the local authentic Mexican diner who served us a scrumptious lunch!!
