They had a free tour and wine tasting. Only 3 wines were available with there Sangria being sold out. The wildly mild was very good. The wine is a bit on the sweet side. A short tour gives the short history of the winery and blueberry farm as well as an interesting tour of the small but growing operation. They are expanding and look forward to a possible return visit
We came here for the free tasting. The wines are really delicious using two pounds of blueberries per bottle. The price is on the high end at $15 per bottle.
Whispering Oaks Winery has a very unique niche in the wine industry. Their wine is made exclusively from blueberries! I have tasted several supposed wines from blueberries in the past, but they always tasted like blueberry juice with a little alcohol added. Having traveled to 103 countries in the last 50 years, I thought I had just about experienced it all. This visit proved, there is always more to learn. Jan Vanderwey, the owner, hired a well known winemaker, Dr. Brent Trela, to assist him and MUCH to my surprise, the wines taste like a blend of pinot and merlot. There are four offerings from Delightfully Dry to Sensationally Sweet including a very unique Sassy Sangria with citrus flavors and aromas added. Jan offers regular daily tours of the winery and free wine tastings with live music on the back patio on the week ends. I was not expecting much before arrival, but left with a new appreciation for creativity in this unique approach to winemaking.Steve Kennedy Co-Founder & Past Chairman The International Wine & Food Society of The Hague, The Netherlands
Wines were delicious! Atmosphere very friend and fun. We took home a couple of bottles because we loved it so much. Staff is friendly and knowledgable as is the owner who gave tours. Weekends they have live music and it was great. We made a few new friends there. Hopefully next time they won't run our of the cheese plates they offer as they looked very yummy! We'll be returning often!
On a rainy day, this was a perfect stop. Our sommelier, Rayne, was knowledgeable and friendly without being pushy or fake. The wine selection is limited but different from any we had tasted before. Although all of the wines are made with blueberries, there was enough of difference between them to easily pick a favorite. Ours was the driest of them. The atmosphere is pleasant and still being developed. A plate of grapes, crackers, and cheese made for a perfect snack. It is only a few minutes from The Villages. All in all, it was well worth the visit.
If you've never tried blueberry wine this definitely a great place to stop. Nice food offerings. Stop for a while and enjoy a relaxing time under the oaks. Nicest people you'll meet.
The weekend of November 22 this winery had it's grand opening! What a great winery! Delicious wine was being made. A mild, a sweet, and a dry. All three wines were tasty and made from blueberries! The sangria was made from blueberries, tangerines, and grapefruit. Sadly not bottled yet! The tour was very educational! Learned all blueberries and wines are made and bottled by hand! Julie who worked behind the wine bar was very friendly and knew her wines! Great winery to go to and enjoy some great wine and relax!!
This weekend was the grand opening!! Great little winery. All wine was made from blueberries. There was three types of wines, Dry, mild, and sweet. All three were very delicious. The sangria was not bottled yet but was also tasty. Made from tangerines, blueberries, and grapefruits. All the wines and blueberries were picked and done by hand. The wine bar was great and had a awesome bartender named Julie. Great tour and very informative. Great winery well worth the visit
