This museum opens with an interesting exhibit of a pendulum knocking down stakes around a map of the world. It shows the rotation of the earth. There was a visiting exhibit of chairs from hundreds of years back to today. The automobile exhibit is fantastic. They bring down various models for your review from three or more levels up in the facility. There are some real beauties on display on the main floor at all times. The Woodies, the Cris Craft boats, the motorcycles, etc. - a great collection. Some fascinating inventions too.Upstairs there is a baseball card and baseball collection. You can find your favorites from any year. There is much more and deserves at least a 2 hour visit but could be longer. There are lots of interesting things for children to do too.
Remember the old juke-boxes? You make a selection, push a button, and the records rotate to your selection, pick the record, and place it on a turntable for your listening pleasure. Now picture about 35 or more classic cars, lovingly restored, on racks two levels deep and high, with a turntable on the first level in the middle of the front row. Others are displayed behind ropes in the large area in front of the glassed in rack. Volunteers or staff were present to give details of the car you might select from the lists displayed, and would key in the selected car, and the machine would move to the appropriate slot, lift and bring to the center the car, and raise or lower as necessary to bring the car to the turntable, where it would then retract, and the turntable would slowly rotate, so you could see the car from all directions. The museum also offered very professionally displayed historical displays and exhibits of the area, and was a real treat. You will find a couple of hours will fly by.
The Elliott always has a traveling exhibit - when we visited this time it was "Seating" - yes, chairs. Doesn't sound exciting does it. Well - we were very pleasantly surprised - it really was quite interesting. Our timing was perfect and the CEO of the museum was just about to do a little tour and talk about the Seating exhibit. It really was interesting. We also really go to see the antique car collection and the elevator display system they have. We took friends to see the cars and they were very impressed. You can view almost everything in about 2 hours - so you don't have to spend the whole day. It really is a lovely museum and the staff are very helpful and informative.
What an incredible place...Please visit. ..amongst the artefacts are several original American cars that they deliver on a turntable for your personal perusal! Thank you for places like these
Did not really know what to expect from this place but we enjoyed it. When you cant get out to the beach due to weather, this place is worth exploring.I'm not entirely sure of its identity. It boasts a big collection of classic cars, some Stuart history, a plethora of signed baseball cards, model ships etc etc... essentially, I felt like the museum housed the collections of a millionaire that we could gawk at. No real rhyme or reason to the place (there is a rotating exhibit of chairs right now) but that is not a put down. I love to poke around at stuff, so I had a great time, but do not go into the place thinking that you will get any art or a heavy background in technology/science. It was a bit pricey ($14pp) but you also got a discounted ticket to the oceanographic lab across the street (good for 30 days).
It is exciting to see how bicycles, motor cycles, cars and other things got developed and how they changed from the beginning until now. There is also a changing exposition. When we visited it was about the war fleet of the U.S.pore
Was surprised to find such diversity at this museum - staff were all very nice & the $12 admission price was worth it. What a great car exhibit! When we went with a group of friends, Elliot had featured "seating" - sounds strange, but it was really interesting.
This is NOT a multi-dollar museum, but a glass garage with vehicles behind a glass wall. The old museum, you could walk up and admire EACH vehicle. Now they're all behind glass and if you wish to admire one particular vehicle, it'll take 5 - 7 minutes, for the Japanese parking system lo retrieve and showcase that vehicle. This new Museum, is a perfect example that money can NOT buy common sense.
Wonder assortment of exhibits. Automobile exhibit is very very good. Museum staff very knowledgeable and answered questions without hesitation... A pleasant outing
I have been to the Elliot several times and it is a nice museum to visit with lots of things to do and see. They have a great car collection and car display at the museum and also change the display and exhibits often so that there is plenty to always do and see at the Elliot Museum. They have some really nice older cars and vehicles as well as a plane reproduction in a huge viewing area.
Awesome antique cars race cars all are on a parking garage that goes up and down and baseball museum with many uniforms and memorabilia .
Thank you for a wonderfully interesting afternoon at the Elliott Museum. The staff could not have been more accommodating and the collection is as interesting as it is eclectic! The car collection, with its automated system allowing visitors to see vintage cars up close, is worth the visit but the history of "old Florida" really added to our enjoyment. And who ever thought that a collection of chairs could be so interesting??? This gem is not to be missed when visiting the area.
It being a cool day: not beach weather, my friends suggested the Elliott Museum in Stuart Florida. Now, I am not that much into old cars, but the exhibit of over 50 impeccable vehicles in a 3 storey high "automat" with mechanized elevator and turntable certainly turned my head! Knowledgeable volunteer interpretation was the icing on the cake. Other exhibits feature local history, marine history and local celebrities added to the mix, as well as a temporary exhibit on chairs. Worth every penny of the small admission fee, and then some!
This museum had some really neat exhibits, one about the art and history of chairs, one about baseball, and an extensive display of antique cars. There is also a lot of history of the local area and its inhabitants. Not very interactive, probably not good for young kids.
The cars are great, but the best part of our visit was the information and stories we got from the volunteers. They obviously loved what they were doing and were just a fountain of information on the cars, the car makers or anything else you wanted to know. We really liked our visit there.
