How could the city mess up such a great place. This area has everything. But be ready for the trains. When they go buy they blow the horns as if they where about to drive off a cliff. And I swear they are the loudest horns I have ever heard. If you get past that and the bridge sirens. This are is great. You can even come in by helicopter now.
What a delightful ride, I love that there is no diesel exhaust in electric boats! The only father /daughter captains in the area.
A beautiful venue for a full appreciation on the city of Ft. Lauderdale. Mansions, yachts, parks, restaurants, office buildings, etc. dot the shores of the winding river to bring the city to life. The water taxi is the best way to get the full picture with its routes extending up onto the Intracoastal Waterway. There are a variety of attractions at the taxi stops, including the River Walk, to experience city life.
The river is well travelled by yachts and boats of every size. The river runs through downtown and extends inland quite far, with numerous marinas along the way. Oh, and viewing the waterfront homes is always a pleasure. Grab a boat, get on the Jungle Queen or sit on it's banks, it's always a good time.
When coming to Fort Lauderdale one needs to go on the New River. Good way to get there is on the water taxi.Only jail in the country that has a water view. A stop at River Walk is well worth it even though most of the restaurants and shops on are gone. Nice place to take a walk and relax.
can see so many beautiful homes and Yachts too. can change from one line to another - tho may have to wait.. very serene and peaceful on the river loved it
Take a water taxi and cruise along New River. You see dozens of amazing mansions and mega yachts, including Steven Spielberg's huge yacht. Great way to spend an afternoon, don't miss this and don't forget your camera!
The New River connects with the Intracoastal Waterway and winds through the beautiful mansions and waterfront homes directly into Ft. Lauderdale city area. By private boats, the Water Taxis or Riverboats, the River offers a scenic ride and access to the various restaurants in and around the city to include being within walking distance to Las Olas Boulevard for boutique shopping.
Seeing the beautiful homes of billionaires will leave you envious. The water taxi is best option when touring the New River.
Ft. Lauderdale got its start along this narrow river about 200 years ago, and many of the original settler,s houses are located here, along with many restaurants,a walking and biking path and lots more to see.
We traveled here via water taxi shuttle that began at stop 4 (Los Olas Blvd) and took us through the financial district and eventually to Esplanade Park. What's fascinating is that most of the buildings and restaurants were not there 15 years ago. It used to be a ghetto and they even built a jail on what is now a $50m property value. The New River is gorgeous, and the only reason I don't rate it 5 stars because I have to compare it to the magnificent nearby Intracoastal Waterway.
Take the water taxi for $22.00 for the full day. We started during the day at Las Olas and traveled around and saw all the Christmas lights at night. Great investment.
Both modern and historic sites abound on this winding, current-driven body of water that shows Fort Lauderdale has so much more to offer than ocean views. From pubs to plazas, marinas to museums, the river has something for everyone.
A few interesting things to see. Several restaurants. Within walking distance of Las Olas. Accessible by the Water Taxi.
We visited here once when all the shops and resturants were up and running. I'm sorry to report that most of them are now closed. The one that is open looks fun with a nautical theme. The walk along the river is nice and now they have a free boat shuttle to take you to the other side which is nice. Some nice sight seeing, probably not so much shopping.
