The exhibits of the fish, turtles, snakes were nice. We were hoping to take the boardwalk tour, but it is closed as "unsafe" and no estimated time of repair and availability. Personally, we learned a lot about the sea-turtle rescue efforts and conditions afflicting the turtles and how they are managed. The volunteers there are happy to engage visitors and answer questions.
We LOVE Gumbo Limbo!! My kids ask to visit the fish and turtles all the time. The indoor exhibits of the sea horses and snakes are also very interesting. The staff are very informative and we always learn something new about the marine life. Thanks for keeping up such a wonderful place!
Gumbo Limbo was great. We stopped in with our 2 young kids and they enjoyed seeing the rescued turtles swimming in the tanks. This place rescues salt water turtles, gives them well-maintained tanks to swim in, and provides guests with a much-appreciated covered viewing area. The tanks are out of the hot sun and have windows on the side so kids and adults who bend down can see right inside. Schools of small fish swim by, sometimes you can see some rays here, and the staff is very helpful as well as polite.Parking is somewhat limited. You only need an hour or two to see the whole facility, but call ahead and ask if there is a specific time of day that they're feeding the fish or turtles. We ended up missing that during our visit.
Everyone loves to stroll the boardwalk that runs through this nature preserve or to climb the tower and see the ocean on one side and the Intracoastal on the other. After doing the boardwalk, visit the section where the giant turtles and other species are kept and learn something about the creatures indigenous to the area. Great little gift shop as well.
Great for children & adults. Take time to attend a feeding, the marine life are very active during it.
A volunteer at the Loggerhead Marine Life Center at Juno Beach suggested we visit the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton. A great suggestion! In this center we also saw sea turtles that had been rescued and were being nursed back to health before hopefully being released in the ocean. We also saw a volunteer feeding various types of fish in a tank. After feeding them, he described the different types of fish in the tank and also explained why one lone turtle was also among them. He was a born teacher. This center is larger than the Loggerhead Center but they both complement one another very well. The volunteers were extremely good.
This place is both educational and fun, a great place to bring your kids. I have been here several times, once for a festival and twice for turtle events. They have some fascinating aquariums in the back as well as tanks for turtle rehab. There are also some short nature trails and an observation tower. Don't forget to leave a small donation.
We've been to this area for vacations for almost 12 years now and just discovered this hidden gem. What a great way to spend an afternoon with the family. The fee is a donation to enter and is worth every $$ you give. We saw the many turtles in various stages of being cared for and rescued. You could watch the people care for the turtles and treat them. There are beautiful paths and a lookout tower to climb and see beautiful views of the area. They are staffed with many volunteers that really care about saving the turtles and teaching others about what they are doing. Great place to visit!
Since the remodel, however very nice, you do not get the opportunity to be up as close to the tanks, before the remodel, nor see as many turtles as you used too. The parking is very difficult. Try to avoid holidays, go during the week if at all possible. It is a nice nature learning center and the people that work there truly care. If you don't have children an hour will get you through, children may take longer to view.I love the idea of the place, but it was disappointing. My guests felt the same way as we have been there a lot. The nature paths were closed when we were there. However, it's worth seeing once to support their cause.
A wonderful place to see turtles and other fish. Walk the paths and enjoy. Climb the tower and see the intracoastal and the sea to take great pictures.
This is a fantastic place I have been coming to for years. They have improved it a lot recently and I love coming here to visit. The staff is incredibly friendly and always willing to answer questions. This is a free attraction but they suggest a $5 donation which everyone should do! They do great work for the local wildlife and community!
This is a small nature center geared for younger kids. There is an observation tower that kids will enjoy climbing. We attended on the Sunday before Presidents' Day and the center was very crowded and parking was difficult.
This is a simple turtle rehabilitation center with a short hiking trail and butterfly garden. There is not a whole lot to see in the trail other than a viewing tower you can go up. There are a few tanks to view some of the turtles and a couple of larger aquarium holding fishes and turtles. Parking can be tough and you might need to park off the main road. No charge to enter but a $5 donation is recommended which is reasonable. I set aside 1-1.5 hours to see this attraction.
Gumbo Limbo Nature Center offers educational programs and exhibits which highlight some of Florida's most popular flora and fauna. They have an ongoing sea turtle rescue program which is truly impressive. It was a great spot to learn and enjoy!
You have to go to this place at feeding time. It is truly amazing watching all the little and big fish eat away at the food. But, don't just go for that. I totally recommend that you ask the staff questions, they are so knowledgeable, and you will learn tonnes from them! Seeing turtles up close was fantastic. We walked around with a 6 month old, we had the stroller for most of it, and it was fine. Special mention for the butterfly garden which was lovely.
