THis is a good centre although it is sometimes difficult to park and the traffic really gets snarled. It is well worth it o first find a spot and then have doe coffee before setting out to shop and haggle. You will be relaxed and maybe not care at all. Do not go on the weekend as it tends to be Very crowded and you get a pushy crowd of tourists. I prefer during the week in the late morning after my coffee and when the dealers are fresh meat to deal with. There are some good values if you know what you are after and also a lot of junk. I love to roam through the stores looking for trasures and once in a while find one. Good place to go.
Art and Culture Center is very clean, clean facilities, modern, and good staff. But the facility takes on the ambiance of the exhibition. Rock ' N' Old sounds like me. The attraction has a vast collection of songs "from every genre" that are hooked up to severs (monitors) for you to listen. The art collection is record slipcovers. Some are computer copies that are 6 1/2 feet tall; and some are unreadable. Some of the record covers are portraits. The show's reception was yesterday, Muller was DJ. Cost $10. Their will be an artist talk at 2 pm today. I will not to there.
We strolled into the Arts and Culture Center on an overcast day. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable about the property. We really enjoyed the exhibits. The center is within walking distance of bars, shops, and restaurants and is a must-see!
Just spent an enjoyable afternoon admiring the current exhibition, In Pieces, at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. What an impressive representation of Nathan Sawaya's ever expanding body of work. I have seen two of his previous three exhibitions, presented by the center, and this work offers the most contemplative revelations into the artist's genius.Collaborations by creative minds are never easy and yet Sawaya has successfully done so with renown photographer Dean West. The resulting surreal portraiture perfectly integrates the sculptures into Dean's engaging photographic works. The life-sized sculptures in the exhibition demonstrate Sawaya's amazing talent with the simply Lego® block. We had a youngster in tow and thanks to the young and informative guides at the center, he was engaged and had an abundance of questions that were answered. He enjoyed spending time in the 'hands on' area and was even challenged to try to construct a spaceship (at least his impression) to show off.So, as adults, we were not the least bit disappointed (unlike the previous post) in what we saw. As and added benefit, our youngster was inspired with his creative building skills and of course asked to have his growing Lego® collection increased at home. It's a pleasure to visit a place that stimulates creativity in our youngster, rather than simply 'entertain' him with mindless electronic gadgets and images.Kudos to the ACCH for exhibiting Nathan's work and for providing an inspirational experience for our youngster.
Thank you for your comments and for taking the time to visit our current exhibition, ‘The Art of Nathan Sawaya featuring IN PIECES’. Nathan Sawaya has exhibited all over the globe, including at the Discovery Times Square Museum in New York, and institutions in Australia, Belgium, Ireland and Taiwan, to name a few. We are delighted that the Center is presenting Nathan’s latest work, which features 32 art works made with LEGO bricks. This is Nathan's fourth exhibition at the Center and we are honored that an artist of his stature continues to show his work here. As with his previous shows, we give visitors a chance to extend their visit by making their own LEGO creations in our Interactive Art Area. It's rewarding for us to see all the wonderful LEGO sculptures visitors create after being inspired by Nathan Sawaya's art. We also welcome families to consider participating in the ‘Florida BRICK Creation Challenge’, which invites Florida residents to use their own LEGO ® pieces to create sculptures at home and compete for prizes. Pieces will be displayed in the Center’s gallery and prizes will be awarded to winning entrants. If you'd like to learn more, please visit: http://artandculturecenter.org/brick-creation-challenge.
Hollywood has really come alive in the last few years they have stepped up programming there is a little fun for everyone. It's a great Friday night/ Saturday night hang. Really cute.
The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood is is critically acclaimed for its cutting edge contemporary art and education programs. They have galleries on the main level as well as the second floor, you will always find something exciting there from established artists. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
My Husband and I enjoyed this park. There were kids everywhere with lots of stuff for everyone to do. Even a free movie night. A beautiful place to take photos, we took a few :-)
We just got back from the Pop Culture in Peanuts exhibit. It was nice. But definitely not worth the $10 for adults and $6 for kids admission fee. This exhibit should be in a regular museum. Where you pay the admission fee and have hours of stuff to do. Here there wasn't more than 45 minutes worth of material.
Hit and miss with exhibits...a little parochial, staff can be stuffy and unwelcoming. Worth stopping by to catch the occasional emerging artist in their gallery.
wow what a beautiful park. Wonderful for both adults (lots of art) and amazing for children with soooooo much to do. wonderful way to have lunch.
Did you ever want to be inspired, motivated, energized, or enlightened? I can only speak for myself but I'm telling you----this is the place for you!! The historic Kagey mansion serves as the backdrop to cutting-edge contemporary art. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly and explained about membership, volunteer opportunities, and facility rentals, educational programs including free family performances and summer camp, and numerous other ways to become involved with the organization. The Center has also become known for their lavish, can't-miss events. They run a first class operation. Don't miss a single event or exhibit! You won't be disappointed. See you there!
You can visit large art venues that show what it thinks everyone wants to see, or you can venture to a more intimate place like the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, and be amazed by the quality of art on display. Contemporary art lovers will always find something new, fresh, and exciting there from young and mid-level artists as well as great works from established artists. And if you're a history buff, you'll love that the Center is located in the beautiful, historic (circa 1924) Kagey mansion, which is within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and the ArtsPark in downtown Hollywood. If you like contemporary art, the Center should definitely be on your to-do list.
Thank you for your comments. The Art and Culture Center is critically acclaimed for our cutting edge contemporary art and education programs. Year round we typically present at least a dozen exhibitions in our main floor galleries (3) and also have a student gallery upstairs which shows outstanding work of both children and adults. As we are in a re-purposed building (a historic home built in 1924), our site does present some limitations in gallery space, however, we are frequently recognized by art critics and the public in general for the quality of our exhibitions. We have proven over the past several years in spite of the constraints of our building, to be among the most well respected art and culture venues in South Florida. We have the distinction of being designated as one of eight officially recognized “Major Cultural Organizations” in Broward County (out of approximately 600 cultural organizations that exist in Broward.) We hope that you will take a few moments to visit our informative web site and consider another visit, during which time you may even be able to attend one of the upcoming performing arts presentations at our nearby 500-seat theater. Please come back and visit!
