Great restaurants, eclectic and upscale shopping everywhere . Great way to spend an afternoon -- people watching in quaint-but-lively delray!
Atlantic ave has it all! Great food, shopping and nightlife. What isn't there to love? It can get a little crowded at night, so it is usually better to park at the top or bottom and walk, rather than get stuck in the traffic mess.
I love people watching the old people...young people with crazy clothes... people walking their dogs... all the cars that cost as much as a boat... the pretty girls... the train wavers who love the loud horn... yes...I love an eclectic look at what Atlantic Avenue has to offer. Having been in Georgetown in the 60s or Hollywood and Vine in its prime I have always loved seeing people being people. The restaurants on this street never let me down. From Greek to Italian to French to seafood or Burgers or soup to chicken wings and chicken fried southern food. It's all here if you get out of your car and join the fun.All are welcomed with a smile.
This review is limited only to the part of Atlantic Avenue closest to the beach. It does not include the quaint shops and boutiques further inland on Atlantic (about a half-mile west of the ocean). If you want peace and quiet, this beach is probably not the place to go. We went in mid-morning, mid-week and the place was already packed with people, cars, and congestion generally. It reminded me of numerous ocean front habitats that one sees on both coasts. If you want to be in the center of activity, then you will be happy. Imagine the bar scene, restaurants and hotels are hopping all the time. The beach was nice to walk on, no doubt about that, and luckily we were there early. It seems that it would be overrun with people later in the day and again, if you don't like crowds, you may want to find another beach. Metered parking was difficult to find.
This is my 7th year wintering in Delray beach fo 3-4 months. Last night i drove down to Atlantic Ave and parked 100 yards north on 6th street(Federal Hwy). When I drove home I realized that the grill had been removed and stolen from my BMW car. Do you believe that? Be careful. Delray is the home to a number of unsavory characters and I have always overlooked them but tonight on a well lit, busy street, someone stole the grill from my car. We won't be bac next year.
Atlantic avenue is a must see when you're visiting Delray Beach. It offers the beach, intracostal with boat rides, unlimited shops, restaurants and bars. There is usually a lot of cultural and artistic festivals on going. Green market six months out of the year on Saturdays. It's very quaint. The Avenue as the locals call it is pet friendly. Stroll and shop, sit for a cup of Java or have a meal. Restaurants vary in prices but there's something for every budget and taste bud.
Lots of really cute boutiques (code for expensive) like Snappy Turtle and Mimi's. But there are also lots of others, not quite as pricey, like Sequin, my new favorite place for jewelry. If you are a consignment shopper, don't miss Second Time Around for designer clothes and accessories (got an adorable Lily Pulitzer dress for my 5-year old for $24, and a new Vera Bradley mid-size purse for $40). Also not to be missed is the Bethesda Bargain Box, and hospital benefit thrift. It has a little bit of everything at pretty reasonable prices. If you're hungry, there are restaurants everywhere, with prices ranging from reasonable to outrageous.
This city has it all, Bars, Beaches, up scale places to eat, Classy taverns, loud rock bars, boutique shops, ice cream/candy store that will rock your senses. This town is the place to be in South FL...but don't tell anyone. It's crowded enough. LOL Only kidding, come and enjoy everything that it has, you will love it!
Fun spot to walk around and check out the town. Tons of great open air restaurants and lots of shopping.
Don't avoid the side streets as many also have interesting shops and restaurants. There are also many hotels on these side streets such as the Hyatt Place hotel.
The unique shops, outside restaurants, even though the traffic is horrendous. You can take a trolley to ease your coming and going
This avenue is really no big deal. It has the usual restaurants, cafes, bars and some shops. On weekends it is so crowded and hard to even walk through the streets. I suppose that in this area of Florida, with not much to do at night, it is an option.
This is especially wonderful to stroll shortly after arriving from the tundra. I enjoyed walking the full length and seeing people spill out of the open air restaurants, onto the side walks.
We lived on ocean ave in delray beach. This is not a quiet little beach town thanks to greedy developers. They have ruined this town and with further development plans on East Atlantic get ready for a true nightmare. There are hundreds if better beach towns in Florida from panhandle to east coast north and south. I would steer very clear of delray
Atlantic Ave. has it all.- great places to eat- great atmosphere - great for just walking around - great during the holidays- great people (I never see any trouble)
