No problem with the talent; we went to see Melissa Manchester, and performance was great. However, this is Cleveland Street in Clearwater and not Broadway, and to charge $20 for valet is a complete rip off, as well as $8 for a glass of Frontera wine. I do not know why small handbags are searched? Interior of building is sterile, although seating is comfortable and all seats provide excellent view. The upstairs lounge offers a nice view of Clearwater bay
Nice Small Venue. All the seats are good. We had to valet park for $20 plus tip so you may want to look nearby for parking.
We just returned from an Olivia Newton John performance which was very good. Wish I could say the same for venue. The seats were very uncomfortable almost like leaning forward. While no cameras, cellphones, or similar recording devices were allowed many persons found the need to hold theirs up nice and high to get a picture, of something other than heads, with no regard for those sitting behind them. People standing up waving their drinks and beer says little for the atmosphere. Tickets were $75 and $ 85 and for the extra ten bucks we got to sit under the exit sign at the very back of the theater. Not sure whoses idea it was to continually shine the spot lights into the crowd but it certainly did nothing for the enjoyment of the performance. Great performance.....poor venue.
Went Saturday night to see Leon Russell... it was the first time at this facility. Parking was nearby and free, at the city hall and since the size of the facility is reasonable, the line to get in was short and went rapidly. Acoustics were pretty good. I thing the beer prices were high.. $12 for a 24 oz can... but that's what you pay at a hockey game too. Overall a good place and I will be looking for upcoming events to go back there to see.
Just saw Leon Russell here and loved the Capitol Theatre. We were in row 8 and everything was great for us. Parking was no problem nearby and the bar was a little pricey but about the same as all venues. Small theaters are the best place to see your favorite artists. By the end they seem like old friends.
This was our first experience at recently renovated Capitol Theater. The acoustics were excellent and the seating was comfortable. A somewhat cozy, intimate venue. Drinks were expensive, but that seems to be the norm for concert venues. HIghly recommend going there and I look forward to going again.
Enjoyed seeing Don McClain in this venue. We are not from Clearwater and are not familiar with this theater and the renovations. We used the Trolley to get to the theater and it was great. Dropped us off right cross the street and the pick up is right in front of the Capital. Valet parking and limited street parking was available and we also noticed a large parking lot very close. The entry and lobby area are very nice. Kind of an old theater style with some modern touches. The sound was great. We were fortunate to be seated in the 4th row. Tight seating. We are not big people and I felt squished. The space between the rows is fairly tight too. My biggest issue is the same as with every venue today. Why do you seat people during a song 26 minutes after the show has started? Another couple came in at about an hour into the show. So here comes an usher, flashlight lit, inconveniencing everyone in the adjacent seats that bothered to show up on time. I wish we lived in Clearwater so we could take advantage of this venue more often.
This is a small theatre, which makes for great opportunities to see artists in an intimate setting. Graham Nash just played here last night [1/12]....awesome show! The lower level seats seem to be a bit roomier than those in the balcony and all are good. I had balcony seats once and, so far, have never had to again. I didn't find it comfortable & I'm not tall. The sound is consistently good; the exception being it wasn't as clear in the balcony, but that could have been the artist not the space. I have always been able to find free and convenient parking for this venue. Traffic and long lines can be an issue, so just allow extra time.
You have got stop by and catch a show at the newly remodeled theater! Everything has been brought back to life! The staff is wonderful and prices are great!
The spoof play was AWSOME. My wife and I were rolling in our seats. We never read the books but you didn't have to to get the point. Great fun upbeat cast that had the entire audience laughing. We left feeling great. Thanks for the great play. Only negative is Capitol is not gun friendly even when your a cop. Had to walk and put my wife's gun in the truck. It's fine but knowing ahead of time she could have left it at home.
Big money was spent renovating this place. Not impressed. The floor seating is average, the box seating is uncomfortable, the lobby is almost nonexistent and large waiting lines snake down the block with people waiting to get inside. A lot of money for not much improvement.
Saw the Outlaws here December 19th. I had a seat in the second row second from the wall on the left (stage right...lol). Whatever you do, don't get the seat against the wall, You will not be able to see due to the box seat. I was able to see very well and enjoyed the venue very much. The Outlaws were amazing, as usual. Looking forward to Arlo Guthrie in a few weeks where I have seats down front.
Last night I attended one of the greatest performances of my life by Ben Vereen--a genius if there ever was one (a protege of the late, great Bob Fosse)--in a beautifully restored theater from the 1920s. How more perfect can it get on this side of the flowers? It was truly an experience I'll always remember! (Note: I traveled from out of state to see this show, and it exceeded my expectations in every way.) The song "Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries" was worth the trip alone! And the story that Ben Vereen told about his recovery from a serious automobile accident that led to a stroke was so inspiring for me. There is always hope, he said--words that I very much needed to hear. Thank you, Ben Vereen, for the absolute joy for life that you brought to all of us in the audience last night!!!
While the theater is small by comparison to simlar area show venues, the people that preserved this 1920's-era theater are to be extolled. We came for Ben Vereen and at his senior age, he put on a one-man, two-hour show that would wear out some 30-somethings. The audience was on its feet roaringly approval as he concluded. His kind remarks about the theater renovation, which saved it from the wrecking ball, were heatfelt and we couldn't agree more. It is a jewel in a downtown that needed a "shot in the arm".
Old theater feel without the old theater disrepairThe show was fantasticI recommend this venue for anyone looking for the real downtown Clearwater
