We stayed right along the ocean. You could go pick the best sea shells since it was private. We saw the dolphins swim by almost every day. Beautiful sunsets and you could walk to the beach area and take a nice walk if you wanted. Lots of great restaurants in the general area as well.
Enjoyed seeing sea life by the Point of Rocks right down from Crescent Beach. We saw sea urchins, live starfish and crabs in shells. Make sure you leave the live sea creatures to live but there are also nice shells around here without live creatures in them.
I have been coming to Sarasota for over 20 years. Every year requires a trip to the point of rocks to look for the best shells. I've also seen a lot of people snorkel around the point. The downside is that with the great shells comes lots of seaweed. Sometimes you have to look in the seaweed to find the good shells. Overall, it's beautiful to walk from other parts of the beach to the point The wall is also very good to sit/walk on.
Cool views, lovely picturesque beach, white fine sand. It was cool during our visit so we didn't go into the ocean. You can walk along the beach for a long way. Parking is tough.
This beach was nice to walk thru for a change, but I wouldn't stay in this area. I like the wider, sandier beaches around it better.
Fantastic coral reef to snorkel. Its best when tide is low you can really walk around, find great shells, and just observe.
Walk around the breakwall south to the beach. Rocky, private and loaded with great intact shells both living and dead. Warning, all private property above the beach so plan to go back the way you came, or rent a place there.
If you venture a climb around the point you will find more excellent shells than you ever dreamed of. Make sure to check for live hermit crabs and leave those alone.
January may not be the warmest time of the year to climb around on the rocks at Point of Rocks but there were a lot of fish to look at. This summer we will come back and climb over the rocks and kayak around them.
We enjoyed Point of Rocks because it is much less crowded than the other beaches on Siesta Key. However, it wouldn't be my first choice there-the other beaches are just too beautiful and it is a little challenging to find.
Point of Rocks this is our Favorite beach place . You can see so much sea life at the point of rocks on siesta key beach . Heavenly white powder sand and a sunset to die for . So Awesome !
July, 2014 was the first time my family & I ventured down the beach to discover the Rocks...where we have been told about the best area to snorkel..we walked, seemed like forever ( just under1.5 mls)it always takes longer in the sun and walking around everyone on the beach..enjoyed the walk, but I was a bit disappointed..not sure what I was expecting( since we are snorkelers/divers) this does Not offer the same, but it is fine for what it is, I would not go again with great hopes of doing a great deal of snorkeling ...it was hot and I carried to much with me along with the fact that those who were with me were inpatient..I think you should go, explore it for yourself and make your own decisions as to whether or not is is a worthwhile venture...the kids will do very nicely here....I would do it again :)
We read the reviews and attempted to access it 3 times! By walking and driving. Looked like the only access was to snorkel?
Years ago the Point O' Rocks area was teaming with fish, shrimp and crabs. A recent trip into those waters still showed some life under the surface. Pinfish were plentiful hopefully leading back to more feeding and larger fish in the future.
Although it takes some work to get to Crescent Beach and Point of Rocks, it was worth the time and bike ride. To get to PofRocks, go at low tide so you don't have to scale the wall to get out. Fortunately, a local instructed us that it was easier to walk out, use a flat rock as a step and then scamper around to the rock side. The shells were abundant and amazing! Could dig for hours to find all sorts of different types.
