If I still had a young child I would definitely use this playground. We pass through regularly, because the playground is at the entrance to the Egan's Creek Greenway. The playground equipment is colorful, sturdy-looking, and imaginative. It appears to be set up not only with children in mind, but also with parents in mind - I see parents sitting comfortably while the children play. Next to the play area are picnic benches, where we one day observed parents supervising a children's birthday party. It seems to be well suited for this use.
During a recent visit to Fernandina beach, I took my kids to the playground based on the reviews I had read. It was a nice playground, but nothing special. It is accessible for kids of different abilities and had relatively new equipment - a very nice playground, but not worth going out of your way to visit.
Great for children of all ages! All of the stations were very mice and interactive and entertaining.
A very different but excellent stop for the kids ...unique activities make this an excellent playground for the kids
Our 4 year old granddaughter was able to entertain herself for more than 1 1/2 at Pirate Playground. Lots of things to do there and it's visited by the locals. In Feb. though you might want to wait till noon as it was a little cool as it shaded in the early morning. Other than that you can take a walk on the greenway before or after if your in a mood to continue to explore. Thanks Amelia Island for all the green space and parks. This one is special.
This playground, located behind the community center, is beautifully laid out and includes some great play activities for ages 10 and younger. Restrooms are nearby (in the gray building behind the playground), although they are not particularly well marked. The playground is located just steps away from the north (Atlantic Avenue) trailhead to the Egans Creek Greenway. The section of greenway immediately adjacent to the playground is a broad and level part of the greenway trail. Young children can easily walk this segment of the trail.
This is a very nice playground. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it is a bit difficult to find (behind the recreation center) and there are no restrooms easily available or well marked. Otherwise it is a great play park.
I honestly loved this playground so much it is hard to know where to begin. This playground was designed with special needs and sensory disorders in mind. Everything is accessible for children with physical disabilities. The park is completely fenced in and small enough you can sit anywhere through out and observe your children playing without any problem. It is also nicely shaded (thank you park designers.) There are also easily accessible bathrooms. These are just the necessities. There are so many fun things at this park. A merry go round that even Mom can get on, comfy swings with backs on them , a cool climbing web, a musical instruments section, a pretend section with little buildings/shops and even a pirate ship. Our favorite the sand water sensory area.
There were many unique and fun things to do for my 3 yr old grandson and 8 yr old granddaughter. Easy to operate backhoe buckets in the sand pit, musical chimes to try, places to climb and balance, swings, of course. A bit hard to find, but worth it. Free and open to the public. Great places for adults to sit and watch.
This is a must see! Whether you are visiting or live here this is well spent time with your children and friends! Great enclosed area, safe for little ones. Lots of fun, interactive things to do. The park is a universal play ground that is designed to accommodate all children, even those that have special needs. We are blessed to live in the neighborhood and visit the playground at least twice a week with our 2 1/2 yr old son! The big sand & water oasis is his favorite! This is the perfect place to bring you burgers and use the grill and picnic tables provided or just a simple lunch! The big oak trees provide a much needed break from the sun! Don't miss this special place! We ❤️ The pirate play ground!!
Best playground on the island by far. Our son loves the digger and our daughter loves the musical instruments. It's amazing for our daughter who is in a wheelchair as it is totally accessible for her. However, this isn't just a place for handicap kids. Every time we go, almost all of the kids there are fully mobile and having a blast. It's our son's favorite playground by far as well.
This playground is worth seeking out. The designers did a great job incorporating activities that can be enjoyed by children of different ages (even those who are just young at heart) and abilities. The playground incorporates music, water, sand, and motion within a fenced, shaded area. The size is large enough for a variety of activities, but small enough for parents of young children to be able to keep them within eyesight. Limited number of above the ground structures. Kudos to everyone in the community who was involved in planning, fundraising, and building the playground!
Breath easy in this beautiful and shady FENCED playground. Music, sand, swings....and more! I drive 50 minutes from my town to go here!!!! Worth it!!!!
A place where a child can use the imagination to play the life of old world pirates. Nice shady spot under the live oaks also in the same complex with city pool recreation and dive shop.
Pirate Playground is an amazing new asset to our community that offers children and adults of all ages and abilities the opportunity to interact and play with each other among the magnificent natural surroundings that Amelia Island is known for. No family trip to Fernandina Beach should pass without planning an excursion to see this beautiful facility.
