I was visiting from Calgary, Alberta, Canada in early Oct 2014. I joined a friend from nearby Orwell to play this course. With little knowledge of the area, my friends and I welcomed the recommendation and were so happy we played here! What a great and interesting golf course. The course was in superb condition, had lots of interesting and challenging golf holes and great scenery( our group were from 4 to18 handicappers and all enjoyed the course) . Plenty of elevation changes to keep things interesting. Definitely not a cookie cutter course. And after the round we were welcomed by very hospitable hosts who made sure we felt welcomed and had lots of good advice about interesting things nearby. Highly recommend this small town beauty!!
When my wife and I recently were in Brandon, we drove past the course and knew we wanted to play there, but it din't look extremely exciting. However, after the first two holes and driving over to the "other side" of the mountains for hole #3, it became a completely different course … beautiful.Course is well maintained, has good greens, has well placed bunkers, elevation changes makes one have to rethink which club to use frequently, and the scenery is just lovely. Has multiple sets of tees, to make the course challenging for golfers with varying skill levels. But be warned, some of the shorter holes do play longer because of elevation changes. The staff was also extremely pleasant and helpful. If we just didn't live so far away (475 miles) we'd definitely want to play there again and again.
Do not let the first two short holes lull you into being overconfident as these are part of the original 9 hole layout which has been blended into the newest 9 holes. Some of the scenery is spectacular, the hole layouts make you think, the course conditions from tee to green rival most private courses and you end up wanting to play it again and again. Before or after your round be sure to stop in the bar/lunch area to meet the friendly staff and partake of fast, freshly prepared food. The regular menu has a good variety and there is usually a daily special. Don't miss the fresh cut French fries, superb Bloody Mary and local craft beers. On annual summer visits to Vermont this is my golf course of choice for many reasons.
My sweetheert is the golfer however the course is so peaceful and lovely I frequently choose to ride along in the cart. The staff is friendly, prices reasonable and the food is very good at the club. There is also a full service bar. If you are half of a couple who does not golf and does not want to ride along, Brandon Music is right across the street. They serve a wonderful British tea.
