Elmore State Park is a great little state park located midway between Stowe and Montpelier. It has a lovely little sandy beach and pavillion. The best part about visiting the park, however, is stopping in at the Elmore Store. Kathy and Warren, the proprietors, make for lively hosts and this little store - which also serves as the town post office - has just about everything: daily breakfasts and lunches, fabulous pizza, fresh food, canned and frozen food, drinks, ice cream, homemade sandwiches, hot dogs, drinks, Vermont cheese, locally made Elmore Bread, local produce, souvenirs, resident golden retriever, etc. You get the drift. Visiting this store is a great experience and fun to boot. Stop here for your hot dogs, marshmallows, sodas and chips before heading over to the State Park for your picnic!
We camped 3 nights here in campers. Nice super quiet campground. If your coming here to party & make noise, forget it. We were told at 1004 pm that we needed to keep our voices to a whisper. We were just sitting around the campground talking. Not even loudly. The ranger girl was sneaking around the campground w lights off on golf cart waiting to tell people to be quiet. A little overkill. I still think this is a nice campground. The beach looked nice. We hiked elmore mtn which is In this park. Took fire tower trail up & new ridge trail down. It was a great hike. Cool to be able to climb up the fire tower. Would definitely return. Loved the little elmore store up the rd too. Really nice people & within walking distance.
We headed out here for a family reunion BBQ, we used the open field behind the parking at the beach and there were plenty of Grills and several picnic tables. A ton or open space for games and running around, there where a few other groups there but it didn't feel like we where crowded or even close enough to hear anyone else...The Beach was pretty great, sand was clean, plenty of room to spread out, water was great my kids all had a blast, at the buoy line it is about 4.5 ft deep so not too deep but good for playing around. Setting was gorgeous! The only complaint was there are NO garbage bins At All! Which I slightly understand $ wise and clean wise but it was just weird and if you are just traveling through and don't live close by could be quite a pain to try to find a place to dump your trash! Especially when you are paying a fee ($3.00 a head) to get in!There is also a small food bar, not much but treats there....
This Vermont State Park has a clean beach with the availability of renting kayaks, canoes, or paddle boats. Everything about this park is clean and updated. We camped for the weekend and found that all of the sites that we checked out were spacious and had a lot more privacy than we have seen in along time. The whole park has an open country feel. The bathrooms are new and kept very clean. Pay showers are also clean. The staff at the park is helpful and interesting to talk to. They appear to really like what they are doing. Positive attitude is a plus and makes for happy campers.
