Saw advertisements in VT rest stop and local ski mags. Then sat on lift with local resident who recommended to try. I went there thinking I would buy the vodka and bourbon but instead walked out with one of the gins and the rum! Also picked up a beautiful farm to table cookbook from VT.
A distillery in the middle of the road, in Vermont; right of Jeffersonville sounds a little crazy.Well I think a lot of people must have said so to the owner and his son when they started producing their spirits.I have heard about the Vodka, but got a very nice surprise with the Gin and the bourbon. The do a great job, the place is simple, the guys are honest and the products are worth it.Do the sampling, enjoy! I also tried the Bourbon, it was excellent (I am a whiskey drinker), and the little shot glass that comes with it is sitting right here in my collection. So so stop if in the area, is worth it!Enjoy!
We stopped by while we were staying at Smuggs. The vodka was very smooth but not a vodka drinker. Loved the bourbon and thought the rum was very good. Bought 3 bottles (bourbon and rum) and will give the rum as Christmas gifts. Also purchased some nip sized bottles for stocking stuffers. Well worth the stop!
We recently went to Vermont on Vacation and went to the Distillery for a sampling. I found the vodka to have a very nice smoothness going down. The people doing the tasting were very knowledgable about the product and were happy to serve us. We brought home a bottle. If you are up at Smuggler's Notch it is a great way to spend 30 minutes.
If you're in the area this is a great experience. I enjoyed each of the samples that I tried and wish that I could have brought more home with me. I ended up with a bottle of their vodka which is incredibly smooth. The only thing better than the tasting was the local knowledge we received talking with one of the friendliest people we've come across in a long time.
Recommended by a friend we added the distillery to the list of things we wanted to do on this trip. I really liked the Vodka and Bourbon products, although the Rum and Gin offerings were also very good. We decided to take some home too—to share the experience with friends.
We enjoyed meeting the proprietor and tasting his vodka, rum, gin, hoppy gin, and bourbon. Tasted with an interesting couple from South Carolina. Fun spot.
I read about this in preparing for our trip to Stowe, but didn't plan to stop there. Then as we were traveling along looking for an antique store we happened upon it. Great find! The woman inside was so welcoming and I thoroughly enjoyed tasting their spirits. Walked out with a nice box of souvenirs and also ordered some more as a gift when I got back home.
We happened to see a sign for the distillery. We stopped in and did the tasting. They were very informative and very nice. Neat little place
I guess I should preface this that I am not a hard alcohol drinker. This being said, we stopped here on a rainy afternoon and sampled. We only tried 2 and paid for 4, but I went home with a bottle of Vodka.
I really liked the Rye and Bourbon products, although the Vodka, Rum and Gin offerings were also very good. Be prepared to open your wallet - you're going to want to take some home; in my case to the tune of $300, which I expect to conjure up great memories of my stay in Vermont when I'm sipping this elixir back home in Massachusetts.
We went to Smugglers Notch distillery after a wine tasting at Boyden's and were not disappointed. Although they were out of their first batch of Bourbon, they did have some for tasting and it was incredibly smooth. Only wish we could have bought a bottle of that batch. Vodka was awesome and the Gin was complex and flavorful. We did get to meet the owner who was very gracious as well as excited, proud and informative about his product - as well he should be. Craft distilleries are an awesome thing and this one is certainly one you should not miss.
Smuggler's Notch Distillery has the best vodka in America as voted by several renown and respected sources. We had to go check it out.The distillery is in a plain, nondescript building, but once inside, it's really nice, well-decorated, warm friendly atmosphere. They have several of their liquors on the counter for taste testing - the vodka, of course, and the rum, the gin, and their whiskey. I tried 3 of the 4 and found them all to be good. We left with a bottle of the vodka!Fun little stop!!
Driving around on a rainy Sunday, we came across Smugglers Notch Distillery. They offer tastings of their 5 spirits; vodka, gin, rum, rye and bourbon. They also offer tours twice a say which we missed, but they let us have a peek anyway. I fully expected some nasty rot-gut in a fancy bottle with a local label like I found in Nantucket some years back. What I actually found blew me away! Their vodka is awesome, indistinguishable from Grey Goose or Ketel One. The gin is exceptional, distilled on site, and their new bourbon beats just about anything Kentucky has to offer. Skip the local liquor store and stock up your slope-side condo from the Smugglers Notch Distillery!
This place has some very good vodka and rum. The bourbon is good as well. It is worth an hour to visit, sample, take the "tour," and purchase some of the award winning spirits!
