I attended a birthday party at Hubbard Park and the shelter was awesome, clean and a great place to visit. Very nice! Would consider hosting a reunion, birthday party or other type of gathering here.
I had a lovely ay hiking around Hubbard Park. It was too icy to go up into the watch tower but that was okay because the trails made up for it. My only criticism is that the trails are not well marked but when I was there I had enough people to ask which way to go.
I was almost going to give it a bad review because I live near one of the entrances, and fake-crunchy-hippies park their Subarus in my apt parking lot and walk their designer dogs in the park. But, it is a great park for a short hike, to explore a little out doors, and discover the Tower and view. Small enough you won't get lost, but big enough to feel like you out-of-town...
We went on a cold and rainy day but it was still amazing, The woods were gorgeous and the view from the top of the tower was breathtaking.
This was a park we went to just to wait for our main attraction the corn maze to open. However we were pleased to see it was a beautiful park with quiet trails and a open lodge with a fireplace.
I grew up near here and came tons as a teen. But many years have passed and as other reviews have said the trails should be marked a better. Glad it's free and open to the public it's a great area! It was a great little hike I had 4 kids aged 10 down to 2. All hiked it just fine. They enjoyed the tower area quite a lot. We found the better way down than we had gone up. But then had to figure out where we parked! It was an adventure!
Thought this would be a great spot for a picnic lunch after a group ride, but the road into the park is STEEP and NARROW. The road was not very well maintained and gravel in the tight right hand turn made it even worse. There were no signs to find the picnic areas. Fortunately, a gentleman walking his dog helped us out. AMAZINGLY, there were NO mosquitoes in the picnic area so lunch was nice....but the ride up and down was not!
This is a wooded area above Montpelier with lots of trails. There is a stone observation tower at the top with limited views of the town and the surrounding countryside. For first time visitors, the trails should be marked and trail maps should be provided.
Having grown up a stone's throw from this Park, I can testify that it's a wonderful addition to the City of Montpelier. I spent many a girl scout experience there in my youth. Dirt roads, BBQ pits, hiking trails, and a stone-built "tower" at the top from which you can see a panoramic view of surroundings, Someone had the foresight to leave this property for the public for generations to come, and it is a great place to visit if you like the outdoors.
The Staff at The Econolodge in Montpelier Suggested that this was a good place to jog or ride a bike and they where right. The trails was well maintained and loved the tower in the center of the park. also a good place for a picnic as there a many tables and grills throughout the park.
This is a great park year round. In the winter enjoy cross country skiing and great sledding. In the Spring, Summer and Autumn there are trails to walk or hike, facilities for picnics. There is also a tower to climb which gives a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and Central Vermont.Hubbard Park is a gem in Montpelier. In the Autumn, the view is especially spectacular with the fall foliage. I like walking through the woods all times of the year. You can walk up to the park from Downtown (it's uphill) or there is limited parking in the park. It's worth the walk!
I found the hiking trail into Hubbard Park behind the State House on a chilly winter's morning and decided to give it a go despite the cold & snow.Wow - what a gorgeous path that was!It winded up the hill through a beautiful woody forest, culminating with the Hubbard Park Tower at the top, a century-old stone structure sporting a pretty decent view over the Vermont countryside. I was pleasantly surprised by the many happy locals out for a run & walking their dog and struck up a few happy conversations along the way.I returned to the city via the northern trail, taking me back down the hill and winding around to Corse Street in the park's south-eastern corner. There are some fantastic views of the city skyline around where Corse Street joins Cliff Street - perfect for shooting a panorama photo. The whole trek from start to finish took just under an hour at a fairly rushed pace (I was on a tight schedule), but I think it'd be more suitable to set aside two hours to fully enjoy its serenity. I'd recommend Hubbard Park to any Montpelier visitor who is comfortable with a moderate uphill walk. If it's this beautiful in the winter, I can't imagine how glorious it'd be during the warmer months.
3 different trails go up a tower. I encourage the long way down as you get a bird's eye view of the city. Really cool.
Just go and hike to the tower. In the Fall you can see beautiful leaves and the mountains that surround the area. It is much easier to get there if you ask a local. Depending on which way you exit, you can come out behind the State Capitol building. There are really interesting benches and rock formations that look like some prehistoric stove that can be seen. Bring your camera. Also if you are daring and they are in season, have some wild edible raspberries. They are the best.
The short walk to this observation tower is right up our alley, but the drive to get there was not! Look at JWren's review also. "The second" entrance he refers to is the way our GPS instructed us to get to the park. It was crazy! Steep and winding! We continued down the road when we exited, which was JWren's "first" entrance... piece of cake. Cool that you can walk up the (modern) stairs inside the tower. The view from the tower was wonderful. The walk up the path was refreshing after being in the city. Go see this park, but go armed with directions from someone else than your GPS!!
