Great shows in a lovely and lively little town with great restaurants. Table 24 was fantastic with super food and very good service and just a few steps from the theater. The schedule of shows is varied and always offers something we love to see.
The Paramount has an attractive auditorium and is likely to keep people coming downtown for reasonably priced live theater. Perhaps it was an off day, but the condition of the men's toilets was unconscionably unhygienic. I can only think (or hope) that maintenance personnel were sick the day of my visit, and no one thought to check out the bathrooms. Toilet seat covers would have helped. I agree that there are good sight lines from all of the seats. However, it should be noted that the seats are narrow. While recognizing that the number of seats impacts revenues, it is a shame that some consideration wasn't given to the growing heft of audiences.
The Paramount is a lovely theatre with reasonable prices. The lineup has improved greatly over the last few years. The seats are comfortable. There is a bathroom close by, though the lines can be long during a big show. There really isn't a bad seat in the theatre--even in the balcony. A great theatre in Rutland!
Good selection of performances, tickets are reasonably priced (especially compared to Broadway). Downside is slightly small number of restroom facilities for women. The line gets a bit long, so don't delay at intermission.
We went to our second show at the Paramount. The restored theatre is beautiful and I don't think there are any bad seats. We saw "Bill Engvall" and his show was fantastic. We will sure visit the Paramount again.
Sound was good. Seats were small, so not the most comfortable. Venue was architecturally beautiful. Good seats in the whole house. Would go there again.
We traveled up from Brattleboro to catch Ziggy Marley. It was my first time at the Paramount and I really enjoyed it. We parked across the street in the big plaza parking lot. It's a great place to walk around downtown. The theater itself was beautiful and while we had seats up high in the balcony, the view of the stage was great! Would definitely come back up for another show.
This old theater features quite a variety of productions...from celebrities to local theater groups. The building has an older era charm (although the seating is not so comfortable if you are there for a long time without a break!). Lobby can get QUITE congested if it's raining outside and they have not yet opened the theater doors, and the restrooms could really use a do-over. However, the facility has a small city-town charm reminiscent of an older era.
We had such a great time seeing the government mule show. This old theater is small and beautiful. The staff was super friendly and laid back. I've never been to a hall that would let you leave and then come back in. The only drawback was the terrible beer choices. it was Blue Moon or Coors lite. And they do not serve any snacks. So when the first set ended they had run out of Blue Moon. We went across the street to the Hoppy Moose and had good beer and pizza and then went back into the show.
I went to see New Order play and everything was going great until the music started. Ear splitting noise. It's possible the sound engineers screwed up but I would not see another concert here. This is the perfect venue for plays though. Maybe musicals where the emphasis is on voice.
I love that this Rutland landmark was revived. Having the theater really breathes life back into downtown. I try to see as many shows as I can.
The Paramount Theater in Rutland is hardly what you would expect in a small Vermont city. A theater restored to its former glory, the Paramount features artists, orchestras, Broadway shows, symphony orchestras, comedians, and the like for the benefit and entertainment of southern Vermont. But, in addition to this cultural oasis, it also manages to broadcast wide screen sporting and pop cultural events - and offer opera directly from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. It is a treasure that will satisfy everyones taste.
If you are visiting Rutland, you can check out Paramount's gorgeous main stage theatre on Center Street. Headliners, terrific plays... but there is also a black box (called Brick Box because... it has a lovely brick wall!). It is the home for Actors Repertory Theatre and the artistic directors are Peter Marsh and Sandra Stillman Gartner. Here they produce wonderful plays, some well known, some new. And they host an annual Nor'Eastern Playwriting Contest and present the work of three playwrights. What I really love about this group is how dedicated they are to their collaborators, playwrights and audience. This is a great model for community theater that holds itself to professional standards.
This is a beautiful old building that has been redone in lovely gold guild and pink colorful walls. Since it is an old building, there is no elevator to a second floor balcony ( actually 2 flights of quite steep stairs ) and at least in the balcony the seats don't allow for much leg room. Easy parking in a parking garage very handy.
What can be said they have great entertainment, beautiful facility and a large variety of performances. They want more information but this sums it up
