There are few - very few - things better than being pulled through gorgeous VT countryside by enthusiastic, sweet, loving, beautiful dogs and their friendly, knowledgable mushers. This is winter at it's finest! My husband and I took our 7 and 4 year old boys on a 45 minute tour and everyone complained when it was over! Next year I am promising all of them a 2 hour tour... maybe two. The staff is friendly and strive to make you comfortable... it's not hard... the sleds are comfy and the dogs are friendly. They all have distinct personalities that are entertaining to watch and fun to interact with. I can't say enough how much we LOVED this experience - book now. :)
Great trip, so fun! Alex was terrific, dogs were great, healthy, friendly, happy to be running. Beautiful scenery, and we were lucky with the weather. We did the two hour tour, but as previous reviewer said, any length would be good. Advice if you're considering going: believe Kathy when she advises on warm clothing, including warm boots. Layers, wool, fleece. Definitely worth doing.
What a fantastic trip, Alex and Kathy are warm and welcoming and have you wanting more!!!!!Just Do IT!!!
(In case TripAdvisor doesn’t say, they’re http://www.braeburnsiberians.com )We did the two-hour ride, though I think any length of ride with these folks would be wonderful. It was a beautiful day, partly sunny with temperatures above freezing. The trail we took mostly followed the Sugar River, passing near civilization at times, but most very quiet (except for the occasional snowmobile). The ride is mostly smooth, and often fast (including very quick starts). There will likely be lots of stops, both to fix the lines and for the dogs to rest. The dogs love to run, but will make it clear when they need to rest or cool down, and we had lots of breaks on our warm day. (Alex said they don’t run the dogs at all above 50°F — it‘s just too warm for them. The dogs love temperatures near zero, and I’d be willing to try a run like that though I’d dig out my balaclava first.)Dress warmly and in layers. It doesn’t hurt to bring extra clothes — there’s room in the sled to stow them if you decide you don’t need them. If you have any questions about how these rides work or whether they’re right for you and family/friends, ask Kathy and Alex. We found them very thoughtful and clear about everything! Most importantly, as dog lovers we found that the dogs are happy and loved. They’re excited to run (Alex says they think they’re hunting), and the owners work hard to find the team with the right personality-pairings and stamina for each run.We will do this again!
These people were very good and very accommodating to our schedule. Alex and Colleen were our mushers, and they provided a wonderful experience for my fiancée and me. The dogs were obviously well cared for and very friendly. We hope to do this again next year. Thanks!
We were so very excited about our first dog sledding adventure, and Alex & Kathy absolutely delivered. Spending the first hour getting to know the dogs...all 30+ of them....helping to put on their harnesses and playing with them was amazing. These pups are well trained, super people friendly (meaning they LOVE attention), so very hardworking, and very much loved by their owners. Each had his/her own name....Hope, Grace, Anikin, Coal, etc. There were 13 dogs pulling our 4-wheeler (unfortunately not enough snow for the sleds) with Alex and my partner and me for almost 3 hours on a stunningly beautiful trail that was once a railroad track bed. Along the way were frozen ponds and creeks, snow covered trees, 2 overpowering and beautiful original covered bridges for trains (I believe only 5 remain in existence), and basically no intervention from human or town. Stunningly peaceful and a miracle to watch the dogs so effortlessly pull 1000+ pounds along a trail. Can't wait to do it again!!! You've got to try this.
We had an amazing time dog sledding today! Standing on the back of the sled really made me feel as though I were actually driving it. And sitting in the front is exhilarating. We so enjoyed petting all the dogs and watch them roll in the snow. Dress in layers for this great family event. Great value!
We were in New Hampshire in March for my daughter's 21 birthday. I wanted to surprise her with something special. After searching for awhile I came across the idea of a dog sled ride. The original company I contacted only took one sled out at a time, but she recommended I check out Braeburn as they take 2 sleds and have space for up tp 4 or 5 people. Kathy and Alex were excellent. It was easy to make arrangements, they answered e-mails and questions promptly, and they were very accommodating. Because of the lack of snow this winter, and the warm temps, we weren't sure the conditions would be good enough to sled. Kathy and Alex drove into New Hampshire to find us a great trail with a good base of snow. And mother nature was right on cue. It snowed 3 inches the night before we went. Usually Braeburn takes their runs either at 10 am or 2 pm. Kathy made an awesome suggestion that we leave later in the afternoon because it was supposed to be a clear night and running with the moonlight would be magical. SWEET!We drove to the trailhead and were met by the Braeburn Team. The dogs were awesome. Another aspect of the experience which we enjoyed was that it was very hands on. We were able to help feed the dogs, interact with the dogs, harness then hook the dogs to the sled. We really felt a part of the whole process. The run itself was more than I could have hoped for. We took off with some daylight left, experienced the sunset on the trail, had birthday cake and hot chocolate at the turn around (complete with lit candles,Thanx Kathy), and returned under a magical starry sky. We spent over 3 hours out on the trail and we enjoyed every minute of it. Taking the run at night was very COLD. Kathy had advised us to dress really warmly with layers. They also had extra supplies as well as foot and hand warmers which we definitely appreciated. We are skiers so were in our complete ski attire which was very necessary. It was a fantastic experience! Now my other children want their turn :) Kathy and Alex A+
We were originally going to do our dogsled ride in Windsor VT but due to lack of snow we had to drive up north of Canaan NH. It was well worth the drive. Alex and Kathy from Braeburn Siberians had 21 of the most beautiful Siberian Huskies you could hope for. My wife worked for a veterinarian for 14 years and was very pleased with the condition of the dogs. Good coats, good teeth and above all great temperaments. Before the ride we were able to help putting the harnesses on the dogs. We then lead them to the sleds and hooked them up to the lines. The dogs were excited about the chance to finally run but they were very gentle. The hour and a half ride was great. Although the snow was soft due to the warm and sunny conditions the 10 dogs pulling our sled still ran like the wind. The sleds are designed to accommodate one passenger sitting up front while the other stands on the runners and holds on to a railing behind the musher, in our case Kathy. My wife and I took turns and switched our places on the sled. Neither of us felt uncomfortable standing on the back of the sled. And oh ... we're in the "over 55" club.We want to go back next winter for a moonlight ride. Can't wait.
