After reading reviews we decided to take this trail. A clear day at the end of December was the perfect weather to hike as it was not too hot and the snow gave the place a great view. The path goes across some streams, rocky terrain and (in our case) it had some slippery ice parts. There is a log where to write when you enter the trail and when you leave it. We took some sandwiches with us and ate them sitting on a rock at the bottom of the fall, quite nice.Totally worth it!
A comfortable hike through woodland leading to picturesque falls where you can be up close and personal.
Definitely worth the GPS challenge! I would recommend using a neighboring street off of the website (Glen Rd. I think?) vs searching for Lye Brook Falls. I am not an experience hiker, but this was easy enough for me. The sights were gorgeous especially with the changing of the leaves, and the fall was breathtaking. I urge you not to ignore the inclined path to your left once you make it to the falls. Reaching the end of that path holds the best view by far! The only challenges of the hike would be the rocky terrain in some spots and an occasional incline that made you wish you got more cardio in every now and then. Enjoy!!
My husband and I hiked to the falls during our anniversary trip to the area. I thought the hike was easy/moderate (my husband may not agree) and the falls at the end were a great reward. It took us exactly 3 hours including ample time at the falls taking pictures. There are a lot of loose rocks in some areas so be careful on the way down to not slip.
We were forewarned of the distance to the waterfall via the previous reviews and the difficulties some reviewers had in finding the trail. We found a similar experience. Even with hiking boots, the trail is rough in many places. Often times you have to step on or over big rocks while going uphill. Definitely not a hike if you are out of shape. It is easy to miss the trail markers especially if you are spending a great deal of time looking down to avoid stepping on a big rock. It is easy to twist an ankle. Coming back down the trail is especially hard on your knees. Take plenty of water on a hot day.
This hike was very rocky and uphill most of the way. We walked for well over 75 minutes and never found the falls. This has to be way more than 2.5 miles!!
The falls were nice. The 2.3 mile hike to the falls to mostly up up up on rocks. There are a couple flat stretches of less than 200 feet. We had been spoiled by short hikes (<0.2 miles) to amazing waterfalls in Northern VT and NH. We have one kid who loves hiking and enjoyed the challenge. Our other kid hates hiking. The trail is poorly marked less than a mile to the fall. Fortunately, someone warned us prior to the fork in the trail (go to the right at the fork even if the tree leaning to the left has a blue trail mark). The 4.6 mile hike took us just under 2 hours that does not include our stay at the falls.
It is not well marked! The link is 2 miles away from the trail head, after asking for directions and walking 45 min we never found it
This hike is completed in a beautiful Vermont forest. It is a hike of mostly easy to moderate level effort. Since it is all within a forest, expect some muddy sections on the trail. Once at the falls there is a nice spot for photos. If you have very young children, you will want to keep an eye on them. There are no barriers. The rocks are wet... well you get the idea. Just below the falls is a large flat rock that is a great spot to have lunch or a snack. Total time round trip was just under 3 hours including photos at the falls and lunch stop. If you enjoy hiking you will enjoy this one. Have fun Doc
Our family of 5 enjoyed this hike tremendously. It's about 4.5 miles round-trip, which is not short but the walk is relatively easy (took us 2-2.5 hours there, and 1.5 hours back). Most of the walk to the falls is flat or an easy uphill, with just a few short steeper climbs. The waterfalls themselves are beautiful and well worth the trip, and the entire forest, with endless streams, mushrooms and other attractions make this a very attractive way to spend half a day.
For two people who live in very flat Florida, this was a good hike to do. Not too difficult, but enough of a grade to test us out. It is pretty rocky, and can be wet and muddy after rains, so hiking boots are best. We went on a Wednesday so the crowds were minimal. The falls are definitely worth the trip.
A lovely walk from Manchester through the woods to some very pretty falls, the path is clearly marked and easy to follow - although it is muddy in places and decent footwear is needed. Worth driving to the nearby carpark to start the walk rather than traipsing all thr way from town though
An easy hike right out of Manchester,VT for the whole family. Our 4 year old grandson was able to do it. Bring your lunch and enjoy by the falls.
This is a hidden wilderness gem in southern Vermont. There are several private "wild" lakes and lots of hiking. Or you can go to the Lye Brook falls that are majestic. Only a couple of miles.
Went on a backpacking trip around Stratton and Borne Ponds with my family. This place was so amazing!
