It is a neat old tree and a cool piece of history. The tree sit probably 500 feet from the parking lot. There are paths to take to the river and beyond.
I had heard of the Signal Tree but never thought much about it until I saw it in person. I was on a nature hike with my sister when she mentioned it was close by. I can't quite explain the serene and awe inspiring feeling you get just from standing by it. Go see it for yourself.
You just have to take the hike to see it, it's worth every step! Although I took many photographs, standing in front of this great piece of history will be forever captured in my memory.
The Signal Tree is in and a part of our Metro Park System. It lies along the "portage path" between the rivers and was a beacon to Native Americans in an earlier time. Great hiking experience.
love this park especially when it is part of the HIKING SPREE. we've been hiking the trails since 1981 and this is a great hike. lovely when the leaves change color!
Enter the park off Cuyahoga and turn left into the first parking lot. Go down the trail to the wonderful Signal Tree. It is a 300- 400 year oldBurr oak. It has three prongs, believed to have been created by the Native Americans to mark a portage trail between two river branches inancient times. Site of many ceremonies. Nice benches for contemplation. Porta- potties picnic area, hiking trails nearby. Peaceful and wonderful all year around!
