Nice place to visit. You can sit at the top and look down on the bridge and it's activity. You can park and walk across or travel down to the bottom, see the gulf and the bridge from the bottom up or take a hike in the gulf. Beautiful in the fall when the leaves are changing colors.
Fun and amazing place to visit. We especially enjoy walking the bridge! That is a long way down! The kiosk information is really informative and well done!
Ashtabula county has 17 covered bridges and this is the longest with a beautiful site. Worth a visit to all covered bridges including the shortest covered bridge locate in Geneva, Ohio. Each year there is a Covered Bridge Festival.
This is the highlight of the area. The covered bridge spans the Smolen Gulf over Indian Trails Park. It's cool to look up from underneath or to stand by the river in late Fall or early Spring and cast a fly for steelhead.
We found out about this from the staff at Geneva on the Lake and stopped by on the way to Route 11 to Interstate 90. Not too far from 90. If was worth stopping to take photographs in the fall foliage which surrounded the bridge. Several vantage points within the park, and also on the other side of the bridge. Recommended.
All the covered bridges in Ashtabula County are great to see, and this one is very modern. There's a little park nearby so you can pull off to take photos.
Oh my...this bridge is the largest covered bridge I have ever seen. I liked that it was so huge but disliked the "modern" look. I view it every time I'm in the area as it is quite awesome.
We did several bridges while visiting wine country. We did the shortest in Geneva (almost comical) and the Smolen Gulf which is the longest just to say we did it. It was a nice bridge. However after awhile, if you saw one covered bridge you have seen them all.
after seeing most of Ohio's covered bridges, I figured that since this one was only 6-7 years old, it wouldn't have the charm. I was wrong. Take time to go the the park on the south side of the bridge, beautiful place to picnic and stroll along the river.
My office is near this location and I'm lucky to travel over the longest covered bridge in the United States, formerly held by a bridge in New Hampshire. It is wooden in structure and spans over 600 feet above a river gorge. If you are in the area, it's well worth the stop to look at a piece of history. The site also holds an informational booth with stats on other covered bridges in Ashtabula County.
