Stop here whenever I am in Amish Country, 3-5 times a year. Always lots to look at, some interactive things to do. Craftsmen to watch. Many, many gift ideas.
We have been going to Wendell August for many years. The many types of gifts one came select from is overwhelming. I love to buy the Christmas ornaments for presents. Many hotels motels bed&breakfasts give out a coupon for one metal ornament of many amish scenes for free, for staying at their place. As everything else, one must visit this unique place and you will come back over and over.
I shop at Wendell August 2 to 4 times a year. Their aluminum and bronze products are a very high quality and unique. I've purchased Christmas ornaments for many years. So many in fact I have a bronze ornament tree and an aluminum ornament tree.Another item I recommend buying is a switch plate. Because their items are pricey, these are a great way to introduce their designs into your decor without breaking the bank. Many people miss this experience when traveling to Ohio Amish country. But if you're in Berlin, it's only about 5 miles or so to it.Make a point and go. You won't be sorry.
If your looking for something unique or just want to browse and learn about the handmade items, this is the place to visit. Beautiful showroom and many items to choose from. Pricey but a good place to find a gift for a special occasion.
We have purchased from this company years ago via a catalogue, so when we saw they had a retail shop in Berlin, Ohio we knew we had to stop. Every year we go to Amish county on business and always make a visit to Wendell August. This sort of a museum and retail shop in one. Your first visit expect to look at lots of displays on the history and manufacturing of the products. Great place to get some very unique and interesting gifts for friends or yourself.
Gorgeous, classy, professional and friendly. Definitely a place to come if you want to preserve memories!
My wife enjoyed it much more than I did. It's a really nice place and interesting in terms of how they make their products. The employees there are very helpful and informative. Their products are really nice but a bit on the expensive side.
They used to make the unique home decor (picture frames, trays, ornaments, special occasion plates, etc.) here but now that's done in Pennsylvania. This is an interesting place to visit to get a first hand look of what they can produce. Items can be purchased or ordered for future delivery.
This is such an interesting place to visit each time I'm in Amish Country. I have such a hard time choosing what to purchase, there is sooo much to see. I have taken my grandchildren there and they always enjoyed a hands-on framed picture that they made to take home. I haven't seen the large buggy yet, but its time for my Amish Country fix.
We stopped to see the World's Largest Amish Buggy inside. It is free to visit the store & see the buggy, but we will warn you that it might cost you before you leave. The unique and beautiful craftmanship is somehting you will want ot take back home. We bought some unusual jewelry for Mother's Day and some conversation pieces for our home. It sn't cheap but there were some fair prices on many items. By the way, the Amish buggy was not built for use, but as a novelty.
It's interesting because it's an art form, and it takes talent to make these items. It's a nice store, comfortable and relaxed. My husband spent a long time looking at the tools of the trade. I really thought the items were beautiful, but I wasnt interested in buying.
Lots of neat things here! A bit pricey, but we had a coupon for a free ornament, which was very nice! And I also enjoyed browsing around. They also have a huge Amish buggy which is neat to see!
I always stop here to see what is new. I have a collection of their products. Its fun to visit even if you don't buy anything.
We go to Wendell August every year to get the annual Christmas tree ornament. They do have a lot of unique hand forged items, but most is very pricey. The ornaments are affordable. They do have tours, and you can see crafting in person. Also some nifty gift ideas. It is worth a stop just to look at everything, even if you don't buy. We have found everybody to be very helpful and friendly.
We loved looking at the beautiful items and there was a large variety however, Unfortunately there are not many inexpensive options. I think it was fun to stop and see it. We did get our free ornament using the coupon given to us by our hotel. It wasn't the same quality but that's ok because it was free. If your looking for gifts they did have coasters with some beautiful picture designs for $15 and I believe some smaller ornaments for $10. Not to bad, otherwise it's fairly expensive.
