There is nothing that can compare with this outdoor drama! The live action, battle scenes, horses, actors entering in canoes on the pond are all part of the beautiful setting on Sugarloaf Mountain. Based on historical events, this story has it all: drama, romance, triumph and defeat.Appropriate for the entire family! Don't miss it!

The professionally produced outdoor drama of Tecumseh! should be on every Ohioan's summer bucket list of family experiences. This renowned theatrical event has something for every member of the family..and includes accurate history lessons for young and old alike. One can even go early and have dinner prior to the show. Many locals have made this a summer tradition; and it has become a nationally proclaimed outdoor drama. This is one show you absolutely must take time to include in your agenda as you travel through Chillicothe, Ohio. You will be glad you traveled back in time to learn of the happenings of the very land you are sitting on!

Outdoor theatre is one of the greatest experiences and this is in the top of the top. From the moment you enter the grounds, you begin to be enveloped in the experience. The raked stage allows for very few "bad" seats. The action is all around and the staging takes full advantage of the setting. It is truly not to be missed if you are in the area. The behind the stage tour is great especially with younger children for whom the action or noise may be frightening as it gives them an idea of how the stunts are performed and that the blood isn't real. For myself personally, I'm glad I didn't do the tour on my first visit as it let me experience the story fully. I had seen the production twice before I brought my scouts and did the backstage tour. Watching the show that night allowed me to see things I hadn't caught, and knowing some "secrets" from the actors made me watch more closely. I've probably seen the show 7 or 8 times over the years and I still love it. If you are only going to be able to be here once, definitely take in the backstage tour. It is only $5 which is cheap in my book, and you can go at 4pm or 5pm which leaves you time to grab dinner at the buffet before showtime.Dinner is nothing fancy but it is good. It is picnic style food in a covered area but still basically outside. Friends, family, teens, scouts have all gone with us and no one ever complained about the food. The dinner includes: Broasted chicken (pressure cooker fried), baked ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, salad bar, bakery rolls, dessert (baked apple streusel and chocolate pudding), coffee, iced tea and soft drinks. Dinner is served 4:30 - 7:30 for $14.75 (kids are $7.95). At 7:30, you best be eating quick as the show starts promptly at 8pm and late seating is a no-no.The production itself is magical, historical, dramatic, heartfelt and, at times, funny. It is really top notch. This is not a casual group but a professional company that prides itself on telling the tales on the grounds where they happened (or at least awfully close). There is cannon fire, gun fire, horses, a large cast, battles, blood, fire, and characters who die or are gravely wounded. Not recommended for under age 6. My own children were 10+ before I took them. There is a 15 min intermission and a snack shack with popcorn and the treats (chocolate covered bananas!) Dress to be outdoors and realize that even on a summer evening, it can cool off dramatically once the sun goes down, A light jacket is a good idea. Bug spray is a necessity for the woods where the amphitheater is located. I've been wickedly tortured by mosquitoes there when I forgot to prepare. Rain is one of those things that happens with outdoor drama. PLEASE DO NOT pop open an umbrella! Bring a rain coat and understand that the production will continue in light rain or even a fairly good downpour if it is short-lived. There is no refund unless the performance is canceled. You can purchase "Rain Insurance" for only $2 extra on your $24.95 ticket. Not a bad idea if you really want to run for cover or not risk a wet evening. So, the best deal is the VIP tickets. They include your tickets ($24.95) with rain insurance ($2), plus backstage tour ($5), plus dinner ($14.75) along with a souvenir program you can get signed by the actors at the meet and greet after the show. It is such a fun family adventure fun of history that comes a love. It is great theatre, great storytelling, and one of those things you just have to experience.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your experience at the theatre! I wish you had had a more favorable experience but frankly, feedback like yours is invaluable to us as we try to make the operation a little better each year. I do hope that you'll take the backstage tour if you make it back. You mentioned that you may have been confusing some history and I think you're probably correct in that assessment. I wonder if, given more up front context to the story, you would have appreciated it more. I'm mostly disappointed that you wouldn't recommend the show. Folks by and large have a good experience at our theatre. A piece of theatre is going to speak to different people differently, and not everyone will like the same thing. That is the nature of a work of art. However, we rarely hear that visitors didn't have a positive overall experience. A large portion of our audience comes from your area and word of mouth is important to us. If there's anything I can do to help change your mind on that, please give me a call in the office. 740-775-4100. Brandon SmithCEO
