Looking for a unique place to have cocktails. Red Eagle Distillery is a must. As you walk in the wonderful woodsy aroma hits you. They offer a vast menu from fabulous Martinis to unique bourbon cocktails. This was one of my favorite stops. Would highly recommend !!!
Want to learn more about whiskey, bourbon and rye...and taste some great samples made on site. You definitely will in this rustic but inviting setting owned by the same people who have made South River Vineyards (The 'Church' winery) such unique and delightful destination!
Let me say the aesthetics are very nice. Place is clean, neat looking but their bourbon and vodka is rough and I was not impressed. Staff not very friendly, had to ask a lot of questions to get any information. Disappointed that the product doesn't taste better. I understand the bourbon is only aged 18 months but we think it could be better, The specialty cocktails are very weak and not worth the expense. Not made from product ...buyer beware. Worth a stop to sample the product but skip the cocktails and move on. By the way, restrooms are accessed from outside back of the building.
This was our second visit to the Red Eagle Distillery. The distillery is charming and unique. The bar offers limited selections of bourbon specialty drinks, however the ones they do offer are delicious. We had the Pumpkin Chai Bourbon martini and the Dirty Hoe martini. Yummy. The bourbon in the drinks is not the house bourbon, this time it was Four Roses. The distillery offers other brands for an additional cost, which we opt for. If you are looking for an unique Ohio distillery then plan a road trip. If you are a big big bourbon aficionado you maybe disappointed.
Great service, thorough explanation of their process, very nice people. As a bourbon afficianado I was impressed. I will certainly return!
Dear Martha, We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your visit. I would like to ensure our customer that we do not use "cheap booze" for our cocktails. Our cocktail Bourbon is Four Roses Yellow label. It is a very nice bourbon for mixed drinks. We do use our product when requested, and yes its because we would run out; but also because our bourbon is a sipping whiskey. Honesty it is a very expensive product to make. We use local corn and specialty malts. We love sharing the history of the our place but not everybody wants to hear it, so you only needed to ask.
Thank you so much for visiting our business. I see you were here in August, the height of tourism season for us. I am very sorry that the bartender spoke fast- that is his personality. It comes in handy more times than not.The reason the still as not running during your visit was because most distillery's do not distill during the summer. The temperatures can be to hot for fermentation. We are running the still 7 days a week currently. As far as the female bartender who whisked the bottle out of your hand- that would be ME. I didn't mean to be offensive or busk. We only keep one bottle of each product on the bar due to theft, so I must have needed the bottle to pour another customer a sample.Lastly, the bottle may read aged 18 months however we are currently on our 5th bottling and it has been aged 6 months in small format barrels. (there is a formula for aging 20 days per gallon) then moved to large traditional barrels where it has been for 2 years.
love this establishment the owners are so nice an helpful there son was a sweetheart his knowledge of the Distillery and how they make the Bourbon and all his knowledge is amazing..great service great people.
This was our second visit to Red Eagle since they opened. (We go to Geneva to visit the wineries, but it's great that there is now this distillery and also a brewery all on one road!) I was pleased to see Red Eagle is now making vodka (from grapes), so I ordered the martini of the day (pomagranate). Very tasty. Our group enjoyed having drinks on the patio before wandering to the next winery on our agenda.
My wife and I stopped in so I could sample their bourbon. They have several bourbons from around the country to try and they distill a bourbon, rye, and a vodka. The bartender, Kevin, was great and shared his knowledge. However, we were there when it wasn't busy. I would not expect him to share as much time with us if there were other people there. They also carry a unique selection of draft beer. I had the bourbon barrel peach and my wife who detests beer said it tasted good. She had the cocktail of the day a rhubarb strawberry vodka lemonade. She loved it, I don't like rhubarb but I would of drank that cocktail. beautiful setting. Would stop back. The bathrooms are not attached to the barn.
This distillery was a great find along the winery trail in the area. There were only 2 kinds, but my husband loved both (I am not into bourbon so much). He also had a cocktail. Beautiful barn setting. It was a little expensive (thanks to silly Ohio laws). The bartender/owner was very friendly and fun. We'd definitely stop again and purchase some more bottles.
This was a nice surprise since our last trip. My husband loved the change from wine. He bought a bottle to take home. Very good.
My husband and I were with a group from The Lodge, and our wine shuttle briefly stopped here as part of the tour. Our entire group of 14 liked it so much, we paid the shuttle driver to bring us back after the tour was over, and even skipped part of the 3rd winery to stay here! The smell when you walk in the door is amazing, such a warm and cozy feeling. They also have drinks that girls and guys both like, straight bourbon but also chocolate martinis and also fun drinks like the Cherry Buckaroo, with Johnny Cash music playing in the background. No, there is no indoor pluming and you must use the "Outhouse" outside if you have to go. That makes it somewhat fun and themed in my opinion. If we are ever in Geneva again (I'm 100% sure we will be) we will make this our first and last stop! Or we may just stay the whole time.....
We stopped across the street at M Cellars on a wine tour, and after a glass of wine we decided to walk across the street to Red Eagle Distillery. This is a rustic place, with a great 'Swamp Water' drink (I'm not much of a bourbon person). it was a fun stop!
I'm not a regular consumer of bourbon or rye, but a side by side tasting helped me pick my favorite. Fantastic distillery with a nice tour and the drinks they make with their spirits are simply delicious. They were very under staffed the day I visited, but worth the stop and worth the wait.
