Stopped by this park on our way through. Nothing was open, but we enjoyed a nice hike around the park before continuing on our way. Made for a nice way.
I went to a flint knapper's convention at this Park the first of September, and also visited the museum and hiked some of the trails. There is not much to see on the trails, because all the pits that the Native American's used have filled in with soil, leaves, and water over the centuries. It would help tell the story of the flint quarries if one of the pits had been excavated to show how far down it went, what the flint nodules actually looked like, etc. It's worth a visit if you are in the area, but will not take much time. If you are interested in digging some flint, the museum has a list of farms down the road that will allow you on their property for a fee. I bought some bags of chips at the museum to take home, because of time constraints.
Have been here several hundred times over the last 50 years. Always enjoy seeing nature at it's best!
Several of the paths had trees down across the path and the signs were so dirty it made it hard to read. The museum is only open on very limited times. There wasn't any maps available. Yet I enjoyed the hike. With limited signs, I got a bit lost, but I could still find many of the pits. It was neat to see so much flint along the path and to read about the history of the area.Could be a great park with some work. Still worth the drive.
