The Bryn Du Mansion is a fabulous stop in Granville, OH. Depending on the season will determine what is featured! Polo on the lawns, art shows, quilting events, lacrosse games, and community benefits are but a few of the many events I have attended here. A wonderful venue for Prom or special events pictures; hosting a graduation party or it's an incredible place for a wedding. Admission to the grounds is free, but event pricing varies with function.
Now the story in this town is that this place is haunted, however I didnt encounter any ghosts while there unless they were in the kitchen.. food was fantastic atmosphere was great.. make reservations and check hours..not that easy to get into.. but worth the trip
This was a beautiful setting for a recent wedding we attended. It is stately and the service was excellent. A very classy experience!
This is a great place for an event. Beautiful facility and grounds and they are great to work with. Very flexible. They allow most vendors you would want but be aware that you have to coordinate everything yourself including renting tables/chairs and clean up so definitely use an event coordinator to handle all of those behind the scenes details so you can enjoy your event!
This is a beautiful place. The grounds are well taken care of. We were here for a wedding in the field house. The place could have been cleaned a little better. There were cob webs and dead bugs in the windows. The biggest complaint I had was with the staff. While we were setting up they were in and out the entire time watching everything as if they were afraid we were going to trash something. Also they have a great dog on site that is friendly as all get out. They had left him in the field house with us even while we were eating while we were setting up. Everyone that was there thought that was very rude.
I cannot believe I stumbled across Polo, for free, 30 minutes from Columbus in Granville Ohio. I am so surprised more people are not aware of this. All the riders are so nice, and help you learn the game. Everyone pulls up in their car with chairs and picnic supplies and watch the game. Its played every sunday around 2-4 pm in the summer (until early September). Cannot wait to go back. It does seem that this is a special-events only place, not open to the public inside the mansion. Too bad, I would love a tour of the place!(PS I marked bathroom facility, but its a port a john so go before you get here)
Wonderful history, views and grounds. Nonprofit org that has restored the mansion and grounds-great for giving!
The Bryn Du Mansion was privately held for most of the last century but is now owned by the Village Of Granville. The estate is comprised of 52 acres with the main house and several outbuildings. In general the house is not open for tours and is rented for private events almost every weekend. Several art shows are held through the year which are open to the public so at those times it is possible to walk through the first floor of the mansion. The grounds are open daily and the Village has improved the formal gardens and added a Veteran's Memorial area. Polo is played on the Great Lawn each Sunday in the summer. Polo is free and open to the public.Funds derived from the private rentals are used to support restoration activities and on-going maintenance.Unless you are attending an event there are no public bathrooms. Anytime a private function is being held the grounds are not available. Parking is free and it can be enjoyable to just wander the grounds. There are several nice restaurants in the Village. One of them, The Granville Inn, was owned by the former owners of the Bryn Du Mansion and has similar architecture and excellent food.
Every June, at least for the last three years, there is a wonderful event held at Bryn Du - on the grand lawn of Bryn Du. It's called the Granville Art & Wine Affair sponsored by the rotary. Bryn Du exudes elegance and refinement of days gone by. The art is OK; the wine tasting is awesome; there's even a beer tent. Music rounds out the day. As as Debbieg777 says, there is polo on Sundays in the summer. I am a Denison alum, a foodie and art show junkie, so a day a Bryn Du is awesome. For a donation, a tour of the mansion is available during the show. Be sure to visit if you are in the area.
This mansion is a great place to see when visiting Granville. It's not necessarily open to the public because it's more of an event facility, so don't expect to walk in and look around. But you can drive up and look at it. On Sunday's they have free polo matches in the 30 acre front lawn in the summer. There is so much history in this mansion and the field house. Stop by and see for yourself. It's a beautiful venue for weddings and corporate functions! Bruce and Athena are so helpful.
