Some nice trails and plenty of programs for the kids. There is usually an opportunity to see horses (at the Equestrian Center), or birds at the Visitor's Center.
I visited for the first time today and it won't be the last time! The nature center is great ~ lots to see and the Eagle Nest (replica) is amazing. Great raptor display, too. I hiked for hours and saw several snakes, lots of toads and frogs and of course, geese. I had an amazing visit. Too bad the staff member at the desk was rude and not very helpful. I had some questions about what I saw and she answered "That's a question for a Naturalist" then looked at her computer screen. Fortunately my brother answered several of my questions. All in all, I'll go back.
Go here all the time. Duck pond is fun, different ponds for fishermen. Play area for kids. Small "dock" to get up close to the pond. Equestrian Center is a beautiful drive back, always on the lookout for wildlife. All the Metroparks are family friendly and very well maintained.
found the displays educational. The facility was very clean and welcoming a great place to take the kids. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The grounds were well maintained I look forward tour next visit.
I discovered the Carlisle Reservation in Lagrange, Ohio yesterday and I was really impressed. I attended a terrific Audubon Society nature talk in the evening there. However, before that I explored the nearby Duck Pond Picnic Area, and the amazing Raptor Center, next to the Visitor Center which was just as amazing and full of bird and animal displays. I was mesmerized enjoying the wildlife observation area and have already made plans to revisit the Carlisle Reservation in a few weeks with friends. This is part of the Lorain County Metro Park system and there are other parks that I have to see. The Carlisle Reservation is just a few minutes off what I call the I-480 west extension. This is a real find and can be enjoyed by those of us who live outside Lorain County.
The area is set up with 3 parks all connected with trails, from hiking to horseback trails. The visitor center has displays which are great for the family and kids at Halloween and Christmas. The duck pond has a great picnic area with a play area for the little ones to enjoy.
This has the best free haunted trail. They have a great fall festival. Go early to get in line. It is not scary before dark and haunted after dark, but the kids can still go after dark because the haunted stuff is all inside buildings. Just skip the buildings on the trail.
Wonderful trails--love it in the winter especially. Nice exhibits. Nice picnic area. We are fortunate to live close to such a great park.
I live near hear and it's so much fun to see the birds in captivity up close and walk the trails, see the horses. The Halloween and Christmas walks are the best.
excellent viewing of natural events, duck pond, rose garden in Lorain is one of the best in the area with ample parking and reasonable food available, plus the excellent view of the lake
Look in the Arrowhead for family programs featuring live animals from the area. The Birds of Prey features live (rescued) red tail hawks (Aphrodite and Callie) a screech owl, a vulture (very handsome fellow) an eagle, 2 barred owls, a great horned owl and a peregrine falcon from the Fulton Rd. bridge.
This is a must for families! As you walk through the forest there is something awaiting every boy and girl. Light displays galore & inflatables that will amaze. A train ride that will take you for a short ride to see more inflatables and finish with hot cocoa & cookies (small charge). This is a free event, but a donation for the food bank is gladly accepted. Canned goods are dropped at the enterance in a small house.
