Great place to see - "must see".wonderful beautiful, worth the hike, make sure you see - just trying to fill in 50 stupid characters without giving you all the details
It was too icy for us to attempt the stairs down to see the rock house, but we did hike along the top. This was not one of the top attractions in the area.
The rock house is pretty cool. It's a little drive from the popular caves in hocking hills but worth visiting if your in the area. The trail is down hill and not paved. There are a lot of steps. I can't remember how many miles the trail is but it's not a real long walk. The house is cool, with opening on the end and on one side. It's dark and wet. You can hear water dripping but you can't see where is coming from. Be careful because the floor of the house is uneven. It's fun for kids with close supervision for sure. You can imagine people long ago taking refuge there, hiding out or a bear living there.. We've been there many times over the years. The winter hike we did there 2 years ago was a challenge with ice but beautiful and magnificent views. Check it out. Take some water and lunch. There are picnic tables there at the parking lot . Enjoy nature at it best.
Rock House is part of Hocking Hills. The rocks do make several caves and you can crawl around the enitre area. In the Spring, hiking in the lowlands can be quite muddy, so be sure to wear good hiking shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.
Rock House is a great site to visit while in Hocking Hills, especially if you're looking for a short distance adventure. Unlike the other sites, it is compact. There are, however, steps and rocks to navigate over and thru. For the adventurous and daring, there are several to climb up and down. There are also many caverns to explore. Some areas can be steep. Wear hiking boots or shoes with good traction. Bring a camera and something to drink, especially during the summer...the climb makes one warm at the end of fall! Very beautiful and pituresque!!
We have been to Hocking Hills and never made it to Rock House. Our dogs loved it and it's not an extensive hike. I recommend it!
beautiful location, but it is not for the faint at heart. wear good shoes with good traction and be prepared. it is a lot of downhill/uphill, treacherous terrain.
Although Rock House is a bit of a drive from the main cave attractions it's well worth the drive. And be prepared! Its a little harder hiking than normal but again - worth it!! I would though try to go during the week, on the weekends it's very crowded and hard to hike because of narrow trails
paths were wet and sand covered. I slipped a couple of times and it scared me just a tad. yeh, I'm a baby...not the parks fault, had a lot of rain while there.
Really neat and totally worth checking out. There is a bit of a hike to get to it but that's normal, just be sure to wear good hiking boots or shoes with good traction. There are a lot of neat rock formations and cliffs around you. Rock House itself was really cool. Dark inside so just watch where your stepping but have fun we did.
Nice cave and trail in the Hocking Hills. Hike difficulty is moderate, some climbing with your hands around the cave. Brought our dog, and she was able to traverse everything with no difficulty. Only complaint is the amount of photographers that set up their tripods in the way of hikers. Hard to move around them in the tighter spaces of the cave.
Our family takes a trip to Hocking Hills every year. Rock House is always a fun stop. Nice hike to see some pretty cool rock formations. Like all the parks in Hocking Hills there is no fee to get in.
I absolutely LOVED exploring the Rock House. I consider it a must do in Hocking Hills. It's the closest thing to an actual cave that they have there, and the area around it is absolutely beautiful. There's lots of trails, and rocks to climb, and explore. The cave itself is pretty awesome, and you have a great view of everything when you're inside. Picture's don't do it justice, it's just beautiful there.
All I can say about Hocking Hills state park is awesome. Wow the caves you have to see and explore the caves and all of Hocking Hills state park to take in the beauty. Looking at pictures of this place is ok. But to be right in the trails the cliffs the caves is unbelievable awsome love this place.
Bring a flashlight or download the flashlight app on your smart phone. This cave is big, really big. We had a great time figuring out where our rooms would be if we were pioneers. This would be the kitchen, that would be the porch and so on. It is dark inside and the ground is a little tricky so be careful. The hike to and from is not to long but there are some big steps. The cave is a little tricky to get into and out of. Definitely worth the effort.
