It's interesting to see where the Goodyear Blimps are manufactured. From across the State Park lake it is possible to see and hear the blimps take off and land. The State Park is also with a visit.
Wingfoot Lake park brings back so many wonderful memories from my childhood. We would spend many days there during summer break from school. My uncle worked at Goodyear when they owned it and it was a private park. I wasn't sure what was in the future for the park once the state took over, but I was so pleasantly surprised! They state has actually improved the park. There are wonderful walking trails (leashed dogs are welcome), playgrounds for the kids, areas for various sporting activities, boating, fishing, picnic and shelter areas, a dog park and so much more. The grounds are kept up beautifully and there is just a feeling of being safe and at peace while you are there. Take a drive out to Suffield sometime, you'll love what Wingfoot has to offer!
We visit this area every year and decided to go to this park for a picnic. The park is well kept and has a nice little gift shop that has yummy ice cream. There are walking trails and playground areas as well. There is a Goodyear Blimp Hanger right across Wingfoot Lake & if your lucky you can see a take off or landing. When we return to the area next year we will come back to the park for another picnic; it's a great park !!
We have visited the park many times and each time has been an enjoyable experience. There is a visitors center that sells ice cream, drinks, bait for fishing, t shirts and some other odds and ends. There are plenty of picnic tables if you choose to eat at the park and there is a large sheltered area that overlooks the water. I especially like the swings they have that also overlook the water. There is a paved walkway that loops around the park and it's a nice quiet way to spend an afternoon. If you have children there is a lot of playground equipment around the park. They also have mini golf, a driving range, tennis and basketball courts and they rent boats that you can take out for the afternoon. There is a cost associated with mini golf, boat rentals and the driving range (check their website or call for hours and prices.) From the edge of the park you can see the docking station for the Goodyear blimp. We've been there a couple of times when we got to see the blimp land and enter the docking station; it's actually pretty cool. There is no cost to enter or to park and since there are lots of parking spots this has never been an issue even when there are several events going on in the pavilions. I definitely recommend a visit; it's perfect for a quiet relaxing day.
I recently attended a family reunion at Wingfoot Lake. The park is scenic, well kept and clean. The restrooms are fully equipped with flushing toilets and sinks. No port a pottys there. My kids enjoyed the miniature golf course. There is a fee. The dog park looked awesome, though we didn't use it. Our dogs stayed home this time. Overall it is a wonderful place for a picnic.
