Beautiful collections. Easy walking trails through various habitats. World renown public garden. I volunteer there, beautiful in all seasons.
This is a piece of heaven in Licking County. Good parking, good services, great for learning about the flora, fauna and animals for young and old alike. Good to drink a cup of coffee in the Winter and watch all the birds eating from the feeders while you are sipping a good cup of coffee while being warm and cozy surrounded by great exhibits. In the Spring I love to bicycle around the loop and look at all the Spring blossoms. In the fall leaf viewing is good too. One of the few truly "free" areas to have a wonderful time exercising, learning and relaxing. A do not miss for visitors and locals. We visit frequently as couples, solo, with friends and with children and grandchildren when they visit.
The Dawes Arboretum is free of charge, with a very nice array of arbors, bushes, flowers, and wildlife, to help educate all ages with well-labeled specimens. It is also a very peaceful place to get away from the regular grind, with rolling terrain, lakes, and trails.
We live less than an hour from here and enjoy visiting often. Such a lovely drive with gardens, trees and ponds. The cemetery is old, interesting to read some of the epitaphs and dates. A few picnic tables scattered here and there for a relaxing lunch. Be sure to check out the cypress garden and look out tower.
Drove around on our own and stopped along the way to walk and enjoy the scenery. Took lots of pictures, just a beautiful place.
I Live about 5 miles from Dawes Arboretum. I have been going there since I was a child. My sons are 16 years apart, and I took both of them there regularly when they were growing up. Our favorite is the Japanese Garden, and even took pictures of my youngest son and his date there before the Prom. The cypress garden is another favorite, especially when you can see the salamanders. We have attended a couple outdoor concerts there, which is a perfect setting for them, and we very much enjoyed them. We always enjoy the Arbor Day Celebration as well. The bee hive, and the bird watching area is also something we love doing. Dawes is a great place to visit anytime of the year.
Beautiful place to take a walk, or drive. Enjoy it most in the fall with the changing of the leaves. Picnic shelters available for small get togethers. A superb place for photo shoots!
I have been going here since I was a child. We were in town last week and had to go by there. It was already showing signs of autumn coming on. There are beautiful trails to walk and unique trees and flowers to see. If you want to make it a quick trip, you can take the driving tour which we did. It was very peaceful and just as we were finishing, we saw some deer. Check out the calendar of events. They had a food truck gathering the night before we were there. Hate we missed it. :)
Beautiful place to take a leisurely drive, walk, or jog. The lookout tower, Japenese gardens, cemetery, etc. are interesting. Several trails to walk and picnic tables. If you live in Licking County, gotta try it at least once per summer. Dawes routinely has other events as well. Live music sometimes. When Prom comes around, lots of high school kids go to Dawes to take their pictures.
A great place to picnic and enjoy the outdoors, the kids get excited to see the wildlife around the waters and the swamp areas. It is beautiful here and very clean.
If you are in Licking County, like the outdoors or are looking for a nice drive, you must stop by the Dawes Arboretum. I have never seen a more interesting drive through experience. You don't have to get out of your car to enjoy lDawes but you will probably want to. Johnny Appleseed site, a cemetery and a enclosed bird watching area. Don't miss the colors in the fall. we walked behind the gift shop trails and smelled the Katsura trees they have heart shaped leaves and smell like, cotton candy or waffles cooking or maybe heaven. You can also climb the tower steps to see the hedge that spells DAWES. The staff is also awesome!
Always wanted to visit and finally did. The grounds are in decent shape and the Visitors Center was very nice. There's lots to see either with a leisurely drive on a well-marked auto tour, or there are several trails to walk. Almost every tree or shrub is identified with a marker.
Dawes features beautiful flower gardens, driving tours, walking tours or some extended hiking. Overall it is just one really terrific gem that you should experience if you are able. We visited yesterday and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We had visited a couple of years ago and enjoyed several features that unfortunately have recently been closed for renovation or upgrade - such as at least two trails and the Japanese Garden. Even with these not being available, we enjoyed the observation tower, the flowers, the birds, the lake and especially the Cypress Swamp. There is no cost. You can spend a few minutes to several hours enjoying Dawes - depending on your schedule. If you can't fit it all in, likely you'll want to go back.
If you enjoy the out-of-doors and beautiful scenery, this is a place to visit. On grounds, you can walk several trails or drive the car loop, both will be beautiful, serene, and enjoyable. You will also find an observation tower overlooking the landscape, various picnic areas, a special trail for children, and a visitor center. The visitor center closes at 5pm, but the park is open until dusk and is free.
This is a beautiful place to visit. There are many types of plants, flowers and trees to view and enjoy. One can walk on foot or drive the car through this amazing arboretum. The observation deck was a favorite with scenic views of the area. It is a nice place to enjoy a quiet morning or afternoon. Take along a picnic basket!
