Great place to visit, had fun, learned a lot. You're missing out if you waste your time at the 577 foundation. Stay all day here and then check out the mud hens later on

I love Fort Meigs. The two years I spent in Ohio this was my favorite place. Reenactments they have are great, as are the gift shop and museum. Some of the artifacts in the museum have been dug up on the grounds of the fort. The staff is very nice and friendly. We would come here even when nothing was going on just to let our dogs run. Great place!

I was over from the UK to see my partner and he brought me here on a rather rainy Memorial Day. It is a beautiful site, well maintained with staff offering very informative historic details on your way around. I was very impressed by the period dress and gun salutes and the weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of the many who came out on the day. The views of the Maumee river were also very beautiful and good for taking photographs. We have since returned to the surrounding areas to appreciate the wildlife, bike trails and atmosphere the Fort offers.

Interesting place with plenty of history. If you want to learn, be sure and visit. Very clean and kept in great condition.

If your close, worth a quick stop by... Reenactment weekends are very much fun..it's a fort, it's a hill, what's not to like.

My husband tends to find forts, cannons, and historical things wherever we travel. We have been to so many that they all seem to blur together. I had low expectations for Fort Meigs, and it was a surprisingly great visit. Well worth the $8 adult admission - the grounds were well kept, the markers and placards to read about the history were not overwhelming and just gave you enough to read versus overloading you with information. Nice view of the river below. Great welcome center and museum area had some artifacts that were nicer that some 'museums' that I have been through. Stop with your family - it is worth the trip. This non-history buff would stop again! Very nice!

This is a very nice place to take the family. Learn a lot about the war of 1812. Be sure to visit the museum and museum store.

Great way to learn history about the War of 1812. This is a well kept historical site, part of the Ohio Historical Society Connection. The fort is the largest reconstructed, wooden-walled fort in the USA. There is admission ($8/adult; $4 children) but free to members of the Ohio Historical Society. It is about 10 acres comprising of the museum/welcome center and several block houses, barricades and the fort. There is a 5-minute introductory video in the museum and worth the time to watch. It is a beautiful park as well overlooking Maumee River.

In the two years I live in the Toledo Ohio area there was not a month I did not go to the fort. The place is great. Through out the year they have events, the best known is the muster on the Maumee. I was also there for the Bicentennial of the battle of Fort Meigs. Go if you can!

Family of four (two boys-7,11) stopped to check out the battlefield and War of 1812 on a very cold and snowy day. The lady inside the museum was very nice and knowledgable explaining what took place there many years ago. The boys loved looking through the gift shop and we all braved the cold to walk through the fort. Of course nothing was happening in the winter time and no cabins were open but we were so glad we stopped.

For history buffs, this is a must. The War of 1812 is the "Forgotten War"; however, the soldiers garrisoning this fort made history by withstanding two British Army sieges in 1813. Their victory, coupled with Commodore Perry's naval victory at the Battle of Lake Erie, both of great historic importance to the future of the fledgling United States, opened the Northwest Territory to settlement and the English were finally driven back into Canada. A great museum with many artifacts from the war. The stockade is the largest re-constructed wooden defense in the United States. Several re-enactments of military battles take place every year as well as historical, pioneer encampments.

This fort has been maintained in it's original condition. Take your time and read all the descriptions about how the fort was built and why. Imagine yourself as an early settler and this landmark takes on a whole new meaning.

This is a great place to learn more about the war of 1812. You can also see reenactments at various times throughout the year.
