Great place for family or for an individual.A lot of very interesting art.A good place to relax and enjoy art.
This is a top-notch professional museum that just happens to be smallish. The art has obviously been selected by knowledgeable curators. There were many pieces I'd love to see often.Parking is readily available.
This is truly a too well kept secret. I never would have guessed a town the size of Zanesville could possibly have this quality and quantity of art/ pottery. If you love pottery and are within a hundred miles of Zanesville. Just do it- you will be amazed like we were.
This museum is a gem and well worth a stop. The variety and depth of the museum's permanent collections is amazing; changing exhibitions are delightful and well displayed; be sure to check out Ohio glass and art pottery.
The patrons and staff of this museum should be very proud of what they have accomplished, preserved and perpetuated with this establishment. The old town of Zanesville appears to have fallen upon hard times and the newer areas given over to urban sprawl but the museum is an oasis of taste and charm that deserves support.
Okay, stop the laughter...Zanesville, OH is a cute, older American frontier city of the 19th century and the center of American decorative ceramics in the early 20th century but what is there now? The Art Museum captures the beauty of what artisans created there lo those many years ago.You grandmother likely had a piece or two of Roseville, Hull or other names from this area. These we very popular at the time but the studios eventually went the way of most American commercial arts from the period. And to appreciate these works the Zanesville Art Museum is the place to see what was once a formidable art colony. The museum is a beautiful structure with spacious galleries and great collections of the various manufacturers. You can see entire lines displayed which is rare. And you see the best examples of these works. The $4 ticket is worth every penny. The third floor displays some massive pieces created for several World Expositions and are breathtaking in their scale and surface design.Easy to find, ample parking, three floors and there are elevators.Enjoy a snap-shot of an art form Americans created in mass for homes that had begun to decorate with finer pieces. Now go to the attic and find that piece your Grandmother left you years ago.
I loved visiting the art museum and its exhibits. There's some great stuff here, and it's part of the community and appreciation of arts. Zanesville has so many talented people. I remember visiting when I was a child, and I took an art class here. I really enjoyed it.
The Zanesville Museum of Art includes a variety of art pieces by the old masters,as well as American & European artists, an unbelievable collection of pottery, sculptures, furniture, paintings and always a current & excellent show. Stop by Weds through Sat. to experience for yourself one of Zanesville's treasures. Although there is an entrance fee, individual or family memberships are extremely reasonable and include reciprocal memberships to many other Ohio museums.
This little known treasure is well worth visiting. It's major collection is Ohio pottery. Pieces reflect all major and minor potteries in the area and many pieces of Rookwood from Cincinnati. Biographies of designers accopany their designs. This is a well organized museum. The collection also contains works by American and European painters. Currently there is also a special exhibit of Ohio art quilts worth seeing. Admission is reasonable and parking is adequate. You can even adopt a painting.
Would you ever think that this little big time place would exist but it does right here on Military Rd. Support and visit this well run institution. Events are grand and you will enjoy the peace viewing the small spaces loaded with intersting work.whatmorecanyousay
This museum is an an unbelievable treasure for a small community like Zanesville. The collection includes art from ancient times through modern times. Theere are numerous unexpected treasures as you tour. The museum's collection of art pottery is very is the very best I've seen, probably because Zanesville was the center of this movement in this country. There are also excellent temporary exhibits as well. Zanesville has always had a strong artistic presence and this museum anchors a thriving artistic community. There are other practicing artisits andd galleries in Zanesville and Zanesville should be considered as an artistic destination for art lovers.
A really lovely local museum featuring some very nice art by regional artists and especially if you have any interest in locally produced American Art Pottery (Roseville, Weller, Owens, Hull, McCoy etc). It has a major collection of examples from these potteries. Well worth a several hour visit. Very up-to-date. Not the easiest place to find. Recommend you stop first at the Zanesville Visitors Center to get directions. Look for signs for either along I-70.
