This is a must see attraction. It is a national historical park. It takes the 2 days to see the 5 sites. We could only see 3. Huffman prairie flying field, the wirght Dunbar center, the wright bicycle company, the wright flyer 3, the paul Dunbar house, and one other attraction. Mainly, this deals with the Wright Brothers. you need to go to the wright Dunbar center to know about the wright bros. some people think it is not important but it is extremely important to your vacation. Kids can do the jr ranger program and receive a badge. The Rangers are friendly. If you live within 3 hours of Dayton you need to visit this place.
It has one of the buildings that the Wright Brothers used for their bicycle shop. There were a lot of exhibits about the Wright Brothers and it also included exhibits about Paul Laurence Dunbar. It does not take long to go through everything as it is kinda small, but it is still well worth the visit. We were there about an hour. Such a great place to see if you like aviation history!
We are avid national park junkies who tend not to hold a lot of expectations for our national historic sites. With budget and staffing cuts, historic sites are usually lacking. That said, the Dayton Park is awesome. Beautiful lay out. Almost an overwhelming number of exhibits. Quite a few are hands on or interactive as well. One of the most inspiring films you will see at a National Park Site. The movie on the Wright brothers was skillfully done. If you do not leave that theater with an enthusiastic and emotional response, then something is wrong. If you are into history, do not miss this site while in Dayton. Our only issue is that we were not able to visit the Wright brothers bicycle shop due to the lack of enough national park staff. Perhaps one day this country will get priorities figured out. We are a family of 4. My 12yr old son was especially happy we stopped. If you are a coffee junkie as well, do not miss the Gaslight Coffee Shop in Dayton. Where else can you get a black walnut and balsamic latte? Fabulous!
Wow- it is amazing what these 2 brothers accomplished without formal education. Their genius started with bicycles and lead to the ultimate dream of man at that time- the ability to fly. Visiting their old neighborhood is like going back 100 years. The movie that is shown in the visitor center is the perfect intro to the entire story. Do start with this and then go from there.
This is a good way to spend a couple hours in Dayton. The main building and the Wright Cycle Company building are together and can be easily done in two hours. There are not a lot of displays, but it is well presented and informative.
I loved the place. Great film, wished it had been longer. Dayton should be proud of the Wright boys! I grew up about 2 hours due west of here and never knew! We plan on visiting as must Wright stuff as we can on our visit.
This is a very unusual national park because it is in buildings. It is not as nice or informative as the Carillon Park, but still can be worth a visit. The most interesting part was learning about the poet Paul Lawrence Dunbar, who unfortunately died very young. They also have the last of the Wright Brothers' cycle shops, which was very informative to visit.
We have visited here before but there are always new things to see and learn at our National Historic sites. The rangers are always willing to answer questions. This site in particular has things for visitors of all ages. The neighborhood as well as the displays have changed since our last visit.
If you have ever flown or even looked to the sky, don't miss this site in Dayton. You'll see an excellent short film about how the Wright Brothers were inspired to fly and just what it took along the way to make their dream a reality-including setbacks they encountered. You'll see what the neighborhood was like 110+ years ago and how they made money to do their research. The original bicycle shop now sits at the Greenfield Village (Dearborn, MI) as Henry Ford purchased the entire building many years ago. What you'll see here is a reproduction with original bicycles and rangers on hand to answer questions.Rangers also lead walking tours daily of the neighborhood. Who knew Dayton was such a hotbed of innovation 125 years ago? There is also a free junior ranger program for kids of all ages!
This is an interactive museum which includes a short, yet informative, film. There is a picnic area outside if you want relax between the sites.
Don't underestimate what you can learn at this National Park! You will travel back in time to the years when the Wright brothers and Paul L. Dunbar walked the streets of this neighborhood. The walking tour was so informative - don't miss it! We also took the time to view the 30 minute video. Another must!
Being from NC, it was great to finally get out to see where the Wright brothers began. The park is wonderful! It is made up of several sites around Dayton, one of which wasn't open to the public when we visited. The main site, located on Williams Street, is fabulous! It is a large, multi-building complex in this adorable little down town area. It is very informative, but has great interactive activities for the kids. The park is free to walk around and well worth the visit. I would plan to spend 2 hours to get a full experience.
This was an intersting museum concerning the Wright Brothers and their work with developing flying machine. The film was very informative and put the effort to fly in historical perspective. This museum was not only about the Wright Brothers but other historical figures that lived in the Dayton area.
This is a wonderfully interactive park that was great for children. My sons enjoyed every minute spent exploring the history of the Wright Bros. and early aviation. For those of you who travel and explore many of the national parks, this location has an excellent quality introductory movie in the visitors center. We have been to almost 40 national parks and this was by far one of the best films we have watched. The Aviation Trail Parachute Museum was also attached to the Visitors Center and was very informative and fun to experience. Next door to the Visitors Center is the Wright Cycle Company. While it was small, it was also very informative, interactive, and a park ranger is there to answer any questions you may have. While the time we had did not allow it, there was a great opportunity for kids to visit 7 out of 14 Aviation Trail sites and receive a free teddy bear. I can see us going back to do this again in the future.
Great quality park. Some of the sites were closed, but the ones that were open were clean, informative and interesting. Vistors who see 7 of the 14 sites on the Aviation Trail get a free teddy bear. Give me a quest for something free and I will complete it. My husband and I are going home with teddy bears for our kids and more historical knowledge gained about plans and bicycles.
