Cleveland has such a great theater district. There have been more improvements made over the last year that have brought even more attention and appreciation to the center. I have been to countless events at the Playhouse from plays, concerts, author discussions, and cooking shows. Just purchased tickets today for another show in June and can't wait. With the smart seat offers, it makes going to the show fun and affordable for all. A perfect place for a planned visit or spontaneous date night!
How fortunate Cleveland and the surrounding areas are to have the beautiful collection of theaters in the Playhouse district. We spent an evening enjoying the Dial M For Murder production in February of 2015. Our seat were located in the downstairs Orchestra section, row G. Our seats were so comfortable and have exceptional leg room for my 6'3" husband and myself at 5'9". This beautiful gem is so perfect for local theater and we look forward to every performance we see. We have traveled to large cities like New York City and Boston and made show performances one of our destinations, however none of the theaters have the charm and beauty of the Cleveland Theater district. I extend a thank you to the members of The Great Lakes Group/Foundation for keeping the Theater District available today and for future generations.
Theatre District is amazing! I love the chandelier and the lights.Fun restaurants are nearby. Ample parking. Great guests and venues come to visit.
First time here and we saw a comedian. The show was great. There is not a bad seat at the State Theatre
This place is great it's a remarkable building with several separate theaters so you could go and see multiple live shows throughout the day if you want. The lay out and design decorations are great the individual theaters are roomy and have great seating space and layout to see the stage and show. Acoustics and lighting in the theatre are great too. Lots of places in the theater to buy drinks or food before your show or during intermission.
We decided to get away for a spontaneous couples night and chose to check out Cleveland. The Playhouse Square was near our hotel and we decided to see what it had to offer. We were very impressed and loved the setup! The atmosphere was energetic and the ticketing staff and ushers were pleasant and very helpful. They have several theaters with various shows all located together. We watched one in the Outcalt Theater. It was comfortable and there wasn't a bad seat in the house. We had a great time and are already planning to take the rest of the family to another show! Great photo ops outside of the theater and the giant chandelier outside is really cool!
The cleveland theater district is a real gem. Speaking as a local with season tickets to the Broadway series,I'm know we are lucky to have this community asset. Playhouse square and the cleveland playhouse offer high quality performances. On the minus side, musicals are a dying breed and the selection is limited. There is a lot of redundancy and remakes year over year. The Cleveland playhouse continues to drift away from straight theater to musical performances by cover groups, thinly disguised as biography. If you want drama or comedy, look to smaller suburban venues like dobama in cleveland heights or gordon squares more avant guard public theater. Low prices, intimate seating, and high quality a short drive from downtown. I think Lakewood also has a theater I have never visited.
I am a local, but I Love when we go to the playhouse!! It's our date night , and we always make the most of it! Even on the gloomiest day the vibes downtown are energetic and sunny! They spiced it up downtown!! Boy did we need it! Can do it all within walking distance.
On January 31st, the Dance troupe known as Pilobolus was here for an 8PM performance. They are known by the general public for their TV appearances and the shadow acts they perform.Well, the show started off slowly and got even slower. There was one decent act where they danced on top of a glass table with a camera below and did some kaleidoscope maneuvers that were projected onto a screen for the audience to get the effect. Everything else that evening was boring. The music was depressing. The dance slow. Nothing upbeat to get the audience engaged. The last act was so painful I said "please make this end". Finally it was over and the torture subsided. The crowd woke up to leave and most seemed baffled as we exited the theatre. They did not perform ONE thing that made them known. They chose to bore us to tears instead. I guess if you are a die hard contemporary dance fan that you may have enjoyed it, but for the general public it was a huge waste of money and time.
The square is all decorated for the holidays. It looks fantastic, and festive. They have recently installed a giant chandlierhanging over the street. The Chandlier is permanent. The holiday lights are beautiful. Make the trip downtown, and enjoy!
Had the privilege of singing in this weekends an Irish Christmas at the Connor Palace theater. The excellent sightlines, the spectacular architecture and beautiful plasterwork and stone. A real monument to a bygone era.
The Cleveland Arts District is absolutely incredible. It is second to few, and a true asset to all of Ohio. From concerts to Broadway tours, it is an incredible venue to attend an event in.
Very old theater - beautiful surroundings - Seating area not conducive to seniors or persons of larger size or heightNo elevator to upper seats. Ushers and supervisors very perceptive when needed a seat for a elder relative.
The theaters in Playhouse Square are beautifully restored and full of opulence. A new addition to the area is the huge outdoor chandelier over Euclid Avenue. There's a lot going on!
As a Clevelander I am very proud of the Playhouse Square area. Now the home of 7 - 8 live performance theaters, it offers everything from Dylan to Shakespere. The Broadway series brings "A" troop touring companies of the latest musicals. The Play House presents plays from old to cutting edge. The area is home to many restaurants, from the iconic Otto Mosser's Deli to the most trendy. Lots to see and do.
