Our kids and their kids enjoyed all the fun things to do at this indoor water park. Very family friendly. But don't go when they're booked to the max, aka, weekend, they're just not prepared for a large crowd, it takes forever to get checked into a room. YOU do need a room, because it's very hard to get, or find a key or the many lockers available. No signs, no help from the staff... so call ahead on a weekday to find out about getting locker keys for your stuff, because a room will not be available if you go before 3pm on a Saturday. You should also take a few minutes to walk around on your own, find the family area for birthday's etc near the game room, nice area to meet up with the rest of the family etc to take a pizza break. You can bring in your own food in this area, not the pool area though. make sure to ask where the towels are, there are plenty, just need to know where they are.have fun... it is fun.. once you get a room and you and your family know where you'll meet up and pick a gathering place and time. Its a big place.
We had a lot of fun on our trip. We got there at 3pm on a Friday and left at Noon on Saturday. We took our 3 and 5 year old. We visited in the middle of record breaking cold. Outside temperatures were from -5F to 15F. I really wanted to give this place a 4/5, but there were some issues that they need to take care of.Pros:- Cozy water park with a good amount of attractions for the small size- Not very difficult to locate family members- The lazy river attraction, the Kai River, was a lot of fun. It had multiple on\off points making it a great way to get from one side of the park to the other. Very well designed and implemented!- The Maui Wowie Bowl Slide is a lot of fun and is a really great ride. You go really fast on it, into a "toilet bowl", and the exit spits you out into the lazy river, a perfect way to end a ride on the slide- The two body slides, the Kana Storm and Hana Half Pipe, were a lot of fun too.- Wait times for the slides were not too bad, especially the body slides.- The Vortex Pool was pretty cool when people weren't just sitting in it blocking the vortex action- Lifeguards were typically friendly and polite- Plenty of seating all around the place even seemed to meet peak-time demands- I witnessed a very alert lifeguard save a 4 year old's life. The boy was unsupervised and attempted to go on a closed attraction, he fell in the water and under one of the floating pads. The lifeguard, a young man, did not hesitate, jumped in, and saved the boy from drowning. (The mother didn't even thank him...)- The little kiddie pool with slide, The Pineapple Bay, was great for our three year old.- The family hot tub, Half Moon Lagoon, was nice when not inundated by unsupervised children.- Our room, 3150, was clean enough, furniture was in good condition, bathroom was clean enough, it was a good size (two queen beds), we were able to crank the heat up high, we could barely hear the crying baby next door, it had a free safe and microwave, and the TV was a nice flat panel with a good selection of HD channels. The room met and slightly exceeded our expectations at this price-point- Our room was ready early and check-in was a breeze at 3pm (room was promised for 4pm)- Parking lot was adequately cleared of snow, we received 6" while thereThings that need to be changed to take it up to 4/5:- The park was not as warm as we wanted it to be, perhaps this was due to the record breaking temperatures which were negative over night and as cold as single-digit Fahrenheit while the water park was open.- The main pool, The Coconut Cove, was flat out cold. That's totally unacceptable for an indoor water park.- The main pool, The Coconut Cove, had a lot of people in it, making it a lot less usable.- The hot tub, during multiple instances, got so taken over by unsupervised children that many adults fled. They really need to post a lifeguard\staff member there. It's the only area of the park that seems to be ignored by staff.- Too many attractions were closed. In a park this small, you need to have as much working as possible.- The family hot tub, The Half Moon Lagoon, was closed part of our first day there.- The biggest water slide in the MakaMaka Treehouse was also totally closed, which was a huge blow for our small children, as it took away what would have been the main attraction for them, as they are height restricted from the rest. It's just caution-tape and otherwise blocked off. This feature is listed on their website and we received no disclaimer that it's completely shut down.- The Water Walk Crossing, a water obstacle, was also closed the entire time we were there, with no explanation. This feature is listed on their website and we received no disclaimer that it's completely shut down.- On Saturday starting around 10am there were a tube shortage. Tubes are required for some of the water slides and to go on the Kai River (Lazy River). Some guests were consistently hording non-used tubes at their seating area, despite the parks policy that you may not do so. This made enjoying the Kai River very difficult between 11am to Noon on Saturday.- There are a lot wear and signs of rust at the park. They really need to better maintain some parts to prevent corrosion\rust. None of it seems to present a danger.- The single family restroom\changing room isn't sufficient for peak times- Tube are mainly stored in an odd place, in a dark corned by the water tube slide exits, instead of at the main entrance for the Kai River, which inexplicably doesn't have tubes stored there.- Unsupervised trouble children were allowed to persistently be an issue.- The website other lacks or doesn't make basic park facts very apparent. For example, attraction that were closed for the duration of our stay aren't noted on there. Check-in\out times are not listed. There was no park map that I could find.- The website says free wifi, but we were given no instructions on how to use it and could not find an unsecured wifi SSID.- The phones have no instructions on how to check messages, call the front desk, or dial out.A note about the reality of the park:This park is the lower-budget option when compared to most competitors. We still had a great time, but do realize that there will be lots of kids from families with less resources, lower standards, and single parent families. For these children, this is a very special occasion that they don't normally have, and they're going to be very excited. These children are not equipped with the discipline, social skills, and etiquette that more well-off families supply. Many children, some as young as 6 or 7, were simply left completely unsupervised by their parents as their behavior kept getting worse and worse. It's not that the parents were not watching them, it's that the parents seemed to be completely absent from the water park.I had to keep reminding myself of how fortunate my children are, and how rough these kids have it, as these problem children cannon-balled into the hot tub, sat on the in\out steps to every attraction, stole inner-tubes from people, and elbowed my children out of the way because they were using a feature that they wanted.I'm not going to ding the park too much in my rating for this, as we still had a great time. I have not taken my kids to the expensive options yet, so I'm not sure if these issues are at water parks that cost twice as much or unique to the "budget" options. There's only so much that the staff can do when a child is flat-out disobident, and their main job is to make sure that all kids are safe and not drowning. Conclusion:For the price we paid, we had a great time. There were a lot of things for a young kids to do. The rooms met our expectations. The staff were friendly, and lifeguards did their jobs. If they want to up my rating to a 4/5 they need to get all the attractions open, make the park and water warmer, prevent tube shortages, and make a little more effort to deal with problem children. We had a great time and will consider coming again, but may very well try another place as well.
the water park is very cute but small the breakfast was good they had billards and a big arcade but the place was still unfinished room was clean and had a nook with bunkbeds for te kids with there own tv in there
Let me tell you, this place was great. The kids loved it and did not want to leave! The layout of the indoor water park is just the right size, with the right amount of things to do. Its perfect for a 2 night stay and priced reasonably. The check-in/out staff at the entrance were very friendly and accommodating. I had a simple request that was met with a smile. And during breakfast, the guys the made my omelet and prepared the buffet style food were super friendly, as well. Great service all around, we will definitely be going back.If tons of water fun and good food with a friendly atmosphere is what you want, then go check out Maui Sands!
JEREMY AND GAGE WERE THE BOMB.COM!!!!!!!!!! they made my family feel as if we were at home.
Just spent 3 nights and 4 days at Maui sands after Xmas and had a pretty good time. The water park is a bit small compared to kalahari but no where near as expensive. The one thing we really liked was it had a sort of conference centre just outside our room where we played catch with a football and the kids could run around and play with their nerf guns. They've got a really friendly staff from the front desk staff all the way to our housekeeper Sam and Doc who seems to do a little of everything. Our room was nice and clean but I think next time, we'd go at a time when it wasn't so busy as they didn't seem to have enough tubes for the slides or lazy river.
Not one positive thing to say. 2 of the 3 young children areas were closed. No life jackets, no clean towels. Lifeguards were clueless and all looked like carnies, talking to guests, flirting with teenagers, definately not paying attention to the swimmers. Staff were rude, disrespectful, unidentifiable, and threatening. No manager "available" throughout entire stay. No real place to eat. Exposed rusty bolts in kiddie pool. Bathrooms, lobby, guest rooms run down, moldy, torn furniture, filthy. Child got eye infection and skin rash from water. We checked out early-staff never once tried to make anything right, appease the many, many complaining guests, or frankly care that people were unhappy. I reported Maui Sands to the Erie County Health Department. Groupon refunded my money. That place should be shut down.
The restaurant was a bar and the other one was gone even though multiple restaurants where advertised on the answering machine. When we were trying to ask the desk clerk she went in the room shut the door and sat down on her phone and started playing candy crush instead of helping us. While the other desk clerk helped the next person in the line that had came up behind us because her coworker couldn't be bothered and could be seen through the mesh of door on her phone. There was one elevator and 2 luggage carts. The breakfast was unorganized so much so that we skipped it. The hallway smelled like pot when we took the stairs. The view was terrible it was of a roof with cinder blocks all over it. The air/heat vent are all in the one area so when you close the door with the king bed it doesn't cool/heat the bunk bed area . The water park was okay.
All I can say is Yikes!! Not what I had expected... suffice to say there was a longer 'disgruntled traveller' line than there was checking in!! This place needs better management and honest advertising. It was the worst experience! The worst. The lobby looked nice.... yes that is the only redeeming feature I can offer about this hotel. Save yourself some stress (and miles of walking to find the front desk) and stay elsewhere
I almost did not take my family here because of the bad reviews. I am glad I went to experience this waterpark for myself! This was a great value. The staff was very accommodating and the hotel was family friendly. The complementary breakfast was more like a full coarse meal! I will be bringing my family back here again soon.
There were four of us (two adults and two small children). We split a Group-on together so for us price wasn't bad. We had two large queen beds. Our room was clean, but definitely not white glove clean. Quite a few nooks and crannies missed. The hotel overall could use some updating. You can definitely see the wear on the place outside and inside. Check-in was at 4pm. We could swim before check-in so we did. There are changing rooms, showers, and a separate family room changing area. The family room does have a frosted glass door (who knows why), as previously stated by others. Note: At 4pm a long line to check-in did amass, but went pretty smoothly and quickly. Since the weekend we went was before Labor Day weekend, the amount of people there was not overwhelming. Lines for the sliding tubes were short and went pretty fast. Just expect a lot of walking and stair climbing. The kids were below a certain height so they could only ride one slide, but they still enjoyed it. Us adults took turns and tried the other slides. The best one is the Bowl. The tubeless slides were not impressive. The lifeguards are everywhere. The majority were nice and watchful. We did encounter a few times a really zealous (and quite annoying) lifeguard that would blow a whistle if your toe touched the line (not kidding), and then proceed to lecture why it was so important your toe didn't touch the line. The kids also loved the open pool and the lazy river. Since the place is small, we pretty much did everything and then some several times over within a couple hours. The pass we had also included free breakfast buffet in the morning. It was nice, as previously stated by others fruit or something more light would be a nice addition to the meal. The pool opened at 10am on Sunday, checkout was at 11AM. So we loaded up the car before hand, then swam for a few hours after checkout. Overall, the experience was ok, but once was enough for us.
its a pretty good water park for the money. the staff is nice and they gave us silk leis when we arrived because the hotel is hawaii themed which was cool. there are a few big slides and some water basketball. we were only there for one night which was enough. the eating choices were slim we got pizza which was good and some chicken Alfredo which was not that good because it was watered down. the rooms were pretty good. the 2 sets of bunk beds were convenient. the resort was nice.. as a one time thing.
I would like to rate them higher because my 8 year old really enjoyed the place. Then again most kids aren't as discriminating as their grown ups. We, parents rate cleanliness, convenience and over all service. One point out for cleanliness - as bathrooms are unkept, soiled towels all over, lying in the floors because no towels bins provided, most soap dispensers remain empty during our four-hour stay (imagine most people not washing from the toilet??)Another point wasted because it is so inconvenient not to have lockers. They only have a few lockers in the area so be ready to walk out to the hotel lobby and out to the parking lot with dripping swimsuits just to get your clothes and bags and stuff from the car, then return to the bathroom to shower and change. Oh, bring your own toiletries, as they don't refill those soap dispensers. Most staff are ok, then again there's one staff in the lobby that is really rude. Not only to us but to other customers that day. Also, water is very cold. Unlike what they claim in their website. We visit as a family on a weekend.
Thought this would be a fun little detour on our drive from Chicago to NJ. It wasn't. No one really knows what's going on, breakfast was crowded and understaffed and there is no elevator to the rooms, so pack lightly.
This was ok for the price I paid. I hot a groupon for four all day passes and kids likes it, but they prefer a bigger place with more rides. Overall it was good for the day.
