fort towson

Fort Towson, a property of the Oklahoma Historical Society, was established in 1824 to maintain peace in the area. The remnants of the fort can be seen on a walking tour. There is currently a new visitor center waiting to open. It will house the remains of a wrecked paddle wheeler recovered from the Red River. The Heroine was carrying supplies to Fort Towson when it hit a snag in the river. As a magnet for chiggers, I didn't take the walking tour. I will return when the new center opens.

We love the Raymond Gary Lake. for the July 4th holiday, it's even better with the fireworks on the lake. The cabins are all close to the water, with bathrooms in each one. They have a great metal pier with rails so we don't worry about the children falling in the water. They have a playground, pavilions, and large public bathrooms. Everything is easily accessible, even for elderly and handicapped. Beautiful at anytime of the year. We take the boat, camper,and tents also. Plenty of space to spread out and have fun! We all love the fishing, from perch to catfish to bass. It's great!
