Well worth a stop and visit. A serene and peaceful setting, not a cathedral but a nice "homey" setting. A place of worship.
Beautiful place to visit and reflect. The kids did not want to go but after our visit said they wanted to go back soon. It is nice to be able to disconnect from the phones and noice of the outside world for an hour or two.
While the shrine itself is very simple, it is very beautiful and peaceful inside of the church. If you're looking for a quiet place to pray and reflect, this is a great stop. There are also Stations of the Cross, gardens, and a gift shop on the church's grounds.
This is a Catholic shrine and is to be accompanied with religious reverence. This is not for everyone, and should be visited with an open heart and intent of prayer and meditation. It is a very rewarding site, especially with proper intentions. There is a newly remodeled outdoor area where the Stations of the Cross can be said. There is no protection from the heat for the Stations, so it would be advised to come early or later when cooler temperatures preside, or even during cooler months (unless the heat is part of one's sacrifice). The store is not open on Saturdays, limited hours on Sunday.
I was expecting a bit more than they offer there. The shrine is not as pretty as I had expected and the place is a bit run down.
I stopped in this shrine with my children one afternoon. I was very pleasantly surprised at what a nice church it is and the lovely memorial garden outside. They have a nice gift shop and a quiet place to meditate and reflect on the infant Christ child.
interesting little place to visit in an interesting little town with an interesting little background
My wife and I made an impromptu detour to the shrine en route from Illinois to New Mexico. What a great joy it turned out to be. Our young docent added many anecdotes about the original statue in the Czech Republic and the founding of the shrine here. The shrine is beautiful and the spiritual lift we got that day continues.
This is not for everyone but if you grew up with an infant of Prague statue in your home then this is a place to visit. To see the actual statue and to read the story while standing in front of the alter is a very moving event. To just look at her while reflecting on ones own life can be very peaceful. I would take time to visit in the back and look at all the gifts sent from all over the world.
This was my second visit to the Shrine. The tour people are very informative and the grounds and chapels are very peaceful. There are many works of art that must be seen, especially the sculpture of Jesus carved by the man with no hands.
