America has many wonderful small museums. Add this one to your list if you pass thru Elk City or Woodward, Oklahoma. A nice side trip to see a functional group of windmills with a small museum and gift shop.

This is worth seeing if you like windmills. The little store was closed, but the radio broadcast made it interesting. We did think there would be more to it, but were glad we went anyway. You don't need to plan much more than an hour here, but maybe more if the store is open. We took photos of a windmill, then one of the label so we know what kind it was and what years they used them, as it is too hard to remember all the facts. We ate at Ed's cafe in town then, and found the food to be fairly good.

An odd little attraction but worth seeing if in the area; several old but still functional windmills are displayed along with an old general store, farmhouse and "soddy" house. The buildings were closed when we arrived but we did look in windows, listen to a few windmill stories via radio broadcast and wander around looking. Probably would have stayed longer if we'd had the time as it is interesting but silly enough to be entertaining too!

Wanted to make a point to stop by on our way home. My husband has always had a fasination with windmills and this museum has a good variety. It was interesting, free and the lady inside the gift shop was very friendly and eager to share information. I had seen this museum on Discover Oklahoma but enjoyed more in person. No fee but there is a donation jar and suggest you help them out as they operate on a donations.

Nestled in the quaint little town of Shattuck lies this wonderful and unique gem. Over 50 unique windmills donated from all across the country.

Numerous windmills that take you back to when people only got water when the wind blew. There is a wide diversity in the types of mills, many of which, are fairly rare. Worth the time to stop and check it out. If the mercantile/gift shop is open be sure to check that out as well!!

Lots of different styles of windmills on display. Even has a small dugout to show the kids how people used to live, and give older people a time to remember where they came from.

This is one of only three (that I could find) windmill museums in the U.S. We were staying in Woodward, OK and found this nearby so we paid a visit and were glad we did. What a love and dedication not to mention all the work that has gone into restoring some 50+ windmills with information on all. It is a 4+ acre site and could take an hour to visit. We never appreciated the role the windmill played in the development of this country until now. Also a mudhouse and typical store and home all restored. Even an audio description of the site you can get on your radio. It operates on donations unlike the others that charge. We were happy to donate as well as to share this information with you. If you are in the area check it out. You can Google their website.
