Interesting museum for Twister fans. They have a real Dorothy prop which you can get up close and personal with. The owner has tons of items donated or collected personally by him during and after the filming. It's located in Wakita, a tiny town obviously, and we got there well after the museum had closed (we were on a long roadtrip.) The owner was down a few doors at a restaurant when we were peeking in the windows. He left his meal to walk us through his entire collection. He spent over 45 minutes telling us stories and pointing out their most interesting artifacts and how he acquired them. He had a good relationship with Bill Paxton who knew of the museum and donated his Twister pinball machine to them. The owner is very passionate about his collection and very down to Earth and friendly. People from all over the world stop by, he has a guestbook and pinboard that are full to the brim. If you want a top to bottom in depth look at how an entire town was taken over by Hollywood for a film and how they did a lot of the scenes its definitely worth a stop!!!
Great museum with lots of memorabilia from the filming of Twister. The lady who runs the museum was very friendly. She also had extensive knowledge of the memorabilia displayed in the museum. She also talked about her experience with the filming as she lived in Wakita at the time Twister was filmed. Definitely worth the trip.
Wakita is a small town where most parts of the movie "Twister" were filmed. The lady who runs the museum is very nice but she loves to chat so don't expect to go there for a quick visit. There are a lot of items from the movie and the owner will give you a good history lesson on the making of the movie and how the town was featured. Don't forget to pick up a Dorothy sensor replica as a momento but don't be disappointed if there aren't any left as apparently they go like hot cakes. Also, the road network too/from Wakita is not well maintained so keep that in mind. We also visited the Twister Cafe just down the road but this was just a very small place with no other reference to Twister than it's name. Very basic food is served but not sure where else you could get a bite to eat.
This little museum in Wakita is a fun stop. It's a homage to the movie Twister who was made here in 1995. Here you can find some movie props and other fun things. Especially loved the Dorothy. If you love the Movie Twister it's a must. I visited in 2007 but as far as I know its still there. Opened from april - october, Tuesday through Saturday from 1-5 pm. But if it's closed there's usually a note on the door telling you who to call to get it open. The hole town is very charming. It's faaaaar out of the way but absolutly worth the drive.
