This was a pretty nice winery to stop at while driving cross country. The people were very nice and it was a nice tasting area. I didn't care too much for the sand plum wine, but if I'm in the area again, I wouldn't mind stopping in.
Sorry I missed you. But please keep in mind this is a working winery and I spend most of my time at the winery in the working area trying to make the best Oklahoma wine possible. If you don't see anyone sleeping behind the counter, come on in the back and I'll be more than happy to show you what we're doing and answer all your wine making and grape growing questions.
Watonga is my hometown, but have been away for many years. Visited town a few weeks back and decided to stop by this winery. I was very impressed with the overall appearance of the winery and really enjoyed sampling many of their wines. They have some signature wines that are fairly sweet and although I'm not a sweet wine kind of guy, they did have good flavor. They have a few that aren't as sweet and I even found one that I really enjoyed called "Stilleto and purchased some to bring home. Plus they offer signature wine glasses with their logo at 2 for $5.00. After returning home to Texas, received a letter from my sister with an article from the local paper, saying that Whirlwind Wineries had been honored as being the only Oklahoma winery representative on the blog "50 State Series: Top Wineries & Breweries Worth Traveling For", by FlipKey. Congratulations on that Brad and Don. It's definately worth the trip to Watonga to check out this wonderful winery. I'll for sure be back the next time I'm in town.
