This winery is totally unmarked, and you must plan at least a week or two ahead and call for an appointment to taste. The tasting are in small groups, in a gorgeous setting. If possible attend one of their open houses. They have fabulous food pairings to go with the wines, and friendly people serving at each station. Great place to taste Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and the Brut Rose it excellent.
I've tasted wine all over the country and abroad, and am in the industry, and I was blown away by Soter. The hospitality is top notch - we were greeted with out first taste right when we arrived. Because it is appointment only, they really can devote all of their time to you and your fellow guests without distraction. The room was light and airy with 360 views of the valley. It was comfortable, modern and not at all stuffy. And the wines - some of the best pinot noir in the area. They have lovely sparkling wine as well. Don't miss this one.
Incredible setting, excellent wines and very knowledgeable tasting room staff. We shared a beautiful table with a few other guests and the wines were discussed in detail. Absolutely worth the tasting fee and the effort of making the appointment.
We visited with my wife's niece and her husband, who have a membership. Reservations are required, but well worth it. Our party of four and two other young women were treated to a wonderful wine tasting experience where we sampled a half-dozen different vintage wines from the Soter Label. We had a private room overlooking the vineyards and the Soter employee gave us an excellent 90 minute's worth of quality information about the wines, their history, their growing conditions and so much more. It was a wonderful way to spend a pleasant afternoon in northern Oregon!
The setting is beautiful and the staff are outstanding. Soter requires everyone to set up a tasting appointment but it is such a pleasant civilized experience compared to many other wineries. we were greeted with a glass as we walked in the door and the entire flight of wine was wonderful. Great place!
I took a group here and had a reservation for the tasting. What a treat--they set us up in a private cabin for the tasting for just our group. The view was fantatic and the wine was wonderful. Our host did an excellent job explaining the wines and we enjoyed our time there. Well worth it!
You must make a reservation for a tasting here. It is the most special we have had, in any region. From the moment we arrived, and we're met by one of the hostesses with a glass of wine to when we left, it was very informative but also very private and special.
I don't want to spoil the experience. Just go and schedule a tasting at Soter. Just do it. Views and staff. . . AMAZING
My father and I visited Soter for a wine tasting earlier this month. I had found it on the internet and always like to try new places. The setting was simply perfect and the group seated tasting overlooking the vineyard was superb! Their wines were really really good. Our host was knowledgeable and pleasant....and patient with us. Soter will be on my must see list for my next visit to the area.
A wine tasting a Soter Vineyards is truly a pleasure. A gorgeous setting with incredible views, friendly and knowledgeable wine staff and outstanding wines! Tastings must be reserved in advance but there is no charge and no high pressure to purchase wine after the tasting. That being said, we joined their wine club finally since we love their wines so much and always have a wonderful tasting when visiting the Willamette Valley. Thanks Soter!
Great party with 350 or so other Wine Club Members under the tent astride the hill by the modern tasting room, the valley arrayed before us. Duck toasts, spit roasted lamb, grilled veg, and some of the finest Pinot in the Valley and in the world. Ostensibly, the introduction for the new Brut Rosé, enthusiastic staff poured liberally from several recent vintages, including 2007 which was rich, more fruit forward than usual, with melting tannins, and utterly delicious. The band played bluegrass itself, adaptations thereof and even the occasional Gospel tune from the film "O Brother..." The various entertainments included active games of chance like ring toss and balloon darts for "Bubble Bucks," ritual Japanese Taigo drumming and a glorious bonfire. But, the highlight was my chat with Tony Soter, our gracious host. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
Visited many wineries during our willamette valley trip, this was our favorite. The tasting was held in a small cabin with incredible views and wines to match. The wine pourer was very knowledgable about the wines and area and encouraged us to taste at our speed, Which made the tasting very relaxed. Also no sales pressure at the end our tasting. Highly recommend Soter but make sure to call ahead to book a tasting.
Beautiful view, excellent wine and gourmet snacks. Great, enjoyable and fun vibe. Classy, but down to Earth. Live Soter Vineyards.
Soter Vineyards is the most amazing vineyard I have visited in Willamette Valley, not just because their wine is amazing but because their staff is invited, friendly and informative. I never feel rushed through a tasting there and being able to look out over the valley is such a treat--anytime of year. Their Brut Rose is awesome in addition to their famed Pinot Noir.
Let's just cut to the chase, shall we? Soter is the best. It's the best the Willamette Valley has to offer and it's the best I've ever experienced in many wine travels around the country. It's what visiting a winery should be all about: intimate, contemplative, warm, welcoming, not pushy and utterly inspiring.I am a wine tour guide in the Willamette Valley, so it is my job to know all the wineries and what they have to offer. I wish more wineries would take notes from how Soter does it. From greeting you at the door with a glass of wine, to hosting small group seated tastings to having the experience guided by a knowledgeable member of the staff, Soter pays attention to detail and provides a memorable experience.Yes, you have to have an appointment, and yes they can be difficult to book at times, but once you're there, you'll understand why they limit crowds... it's so they can provide everyone with the superior level of excellent service that they have become known for. Their $20 tasting fee is waived with any purchase - which is a very generous deal. And that doesn't even begin to discuss the wine itself - which is superb. Their sparkling wines are the stuff of legends - and they have several tiers of Pinot Noir - each of which out-performs its respective price point. Their wine was rated #1 in the state in 2 of the last 3 years by Portland Monthly Magazine. No small feat.I may be a little biased because I bring a LOT of my tours here, and they treat me like family... but Soter is making a concerted effort to stand apart from the "crowd" and have done a superb job in doing so. Plan ahead, make your appointment, and plan your day around it. You'll be glad you did. Be sure to ask them about their wine club which again, stands above the crowd in terms of benefits and events. Enjoy!
