Another spectacular waterfall on the Columbia River Highway. This one required a short hike with a reasonably steep return, but was completely worth it! The falls themselves are spectacular and the surrounding scenery is beautiful as well.
Wonderful short hike through the forest from the parking lot. Our 15 month old granddaughter kept her smile ON as she hiked on her own (with a hand on her during the steeper parts)! The sounds of the pounding waterfall mesmerized you as you stood and took in its beauty. Lovely and accessible - a special place for many to enjoy.
The views of the gorge were nice as well as the falls after a slippery hike in the morning to the falls. There are a number of other falls along the US30 route that are more scenic(Multnomah falls).
You must walk all the way to the observation tower - it's paved and there are steps, but if you are able at all, do it - you won't regret it. Beautiful.
We visited on a rainy day and were surprised at how busy the falls were! There were a lot of photographers with tripods at the falls. It was difficult to maneuver around them. The view was worth the trouble though. A definite must stop for waterfall fans.
i went there with my boyfriend and we figured it would be a short trip since it was only 2/3 of a mile. I am a little heavy so i was worried that it would be too difficult but there was plenty of old people there so i figured it wasn't too hard. It was pretty steep going down but well worth the hike. We made it there and back within a hour taking our time. There is a lot of other people that go there so don't expect to be alone. I would go back.
This was one of my favorite waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. The hike was down a steep hill and not an issue until climbing back up, but we handled it fine. The shadows and trees, made the photos of this waterfall particularly fantastic. This falls had a cool bridge on top and the whole park was great with picnic tables and one of the easier places to park on a Sunday.
Bridal Veil Falls is one of the first sets of waterfalls you can encounter as you drive west on I-84 from Portland. It's easily found off of exit 28 on I-84 or off of the Historic Columbia River Highway. As you approach the falls from the west, you'll drive over the bridge which conceals the falls beneath. There are no fees and parking is available in a lot. The path from the parking lot is partially paved and somewhat steep in parts, but overall it's an easy hike that is less than 1 mile round trip. You can get relatively close to the falls when you arrive or view them from a platform. The dirt path is a little slippery if you go down near the waters edge, so be careful of your footing. This is a fairly short stop, but one worth making on what will be a fun day of driving up the Columbia River Gorge to see some spectacular waterfalls. The drive up the River Gorge is worth getting a rental car, if even for a day. The drive and waterfalls were the highlight of my recent trip to Portland. To see a GoPro view of these and other falls along the Columbia River Gorge, be sure to search for me on YouTube under my KA Adventures Channel.
Easy hike with a great payoff at the end! This was one of my favorite waterfalls. There weren't many people there and you could get pretty close to the waterfall.
....With a hike that won't kill you. Definitely worth a visit and would make for a good photo op. Be sure to offer to take a group pic for someone...do a good deed. Dads seem to get left out of a bunch. ;)
To view the Bridal Veil falls off of the Columbia River Highway you must take a short, yet hearty hike into the state park. It is about 1/2 mile and is steep but safe. The forest is lush and moist with abundant tree growth. At the base of the falls is a huge rock where the brave can venture out onto and climb. There is a viewing platform for picture taking. The parking is adequate and there are washrooms at the entrance to the park. It was not at all touristy but there were several other families there.
There are 2 choices of viewing at the Bridal Veil Falls: a 1/2 mile overlook trail, or 2/3 mile taking you to the foot of the falls. We took the second route. It was fairly easy. Right before the viewpoint, there is a slippery path down to a big rock next to the water. We opted not to go that way, and just take the photo-op from the main path. There is an upper falls cascading 100 feet and the lower falls cascading about 60 feet. Together, they really resemble a bride's veil. Apparently, many brides send out their invitations from here so they can get a Bridal Veils postmark. There is a clean bathroom, with working sink and soap, at the parking lot.
Such a nice easy going hike, great exercise for the young and the old. With a lovely treat at the end....The Bridal Veil Falls. Great place for pictures and memories in the making.Stop and feel the cooling mist spraying off the falls. A fun side trip. Very nice restaurant, gift shop and clean bathrooms.
Pretty easy hike around well maintained park. Two options here, down to Bridal Veils Falls with great viewing platform and a flat loop walk with Columbia a Gorge viewing points. This struck me as a good family easy outing. Clean restrooms up front making this a good stopping place for one of the many falls viewing in this area.
Let me say that this is not an "easy" hike if you are not in shape, a couple of people in our group had to make use of the benches along the path on the way back up the trail. I can say it was a well maintained path and worth every step we took! The falls were beautiful!!!!
