Champagne is my favorite, so I was most excited for this tasting. It was my favorite tasting of the day; obviously I'm biased. We purchased a case that day and even joined their wine club. And bonus, the support the troops; free tasting for AD military!
Very nice wine tasting venue and great passionate people that know their wine serve up some great tasting wine at the Argyle Winery. Located about 30 minutes South of Portland it's a convenient and nice drive to get away form the city and venture outside of Portland. Their wines are competitively priced and are great tasting.
Right on the main drag in Dundee is Argyle Winery, with its collection of sparkling wines. A frequent choice for state dinners at the White House for 20 years, Argyle has a nice selection. Very friendly and conversational staff. Beautiful gardens surround the older and elegant building that now houses the winery.
We stopped by on our way back to Portland from the coast. It was a last minute decision and we stopped here because they were right off the main street. I stopped with my parents and we tried one set of wines; the bubbly one. They were very good, but not as good as the Riesling that we received as a free sample. We enjoyed our short time at the winery and we took home their info so we can order some from home. The only drawback I can think of is that they did not offer any snacks. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stop.
Went with my wife's niece and her husband -- they have a membership. The tasting room is right off the busy Highway 99 -- through the center of Dundee -- and it was very crowded. The wines we tasted were nice, but sitting outside in the garden was the best feature in my opinion. I didn't learn anything about the wines -- the servers were way too busy -- but we enjoyed the 30 minute stop, nevertheless.
We are club members and when in the area stop in for a tasting. My bride does the sparkling and I do the reds. As always the sparkling wines are some of the nicest made in the U.S. and I must admit the Pinot Noirs are a lot more to my taste than they were a couple of years ago. This tasting room is always busy and has a mixed crowd of younger as well as more mature tasters. It is a fun place to taste and should be a must stop when in the area.
I was hunting for a winery that was large enough to distribute to my state. Argyle was one of those. Upon visiting, they also seem small enough to maintain charm and great pride in their wines, including small test bottles. My husband and I tried a couple flights and found some real winners. The wine manager was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. We went on a weekday afternoon so it wasn't busy. This a really nice place to try wines at.
This is one for the ladies for sure, so many selections of sparkling Wine. Argyles tasting room is down to earth and not stuffy at all. They get a lot of limo tours and there are lots of women here. I enjoyed the pinot noirs and sparkling wines but thought that the wines were good to very good but nothing jumped of the palate as being great. worth the visit to see all the eye candy. I will return....
Located in Dundee, the tasting room is simple and quite busy. Three different flights of wine were offered for $10 each. The one I would suggest is the sparkling wine where you can taste three kinds - all of which are delicious. The busyness of the place doesn't give you a chance to speak to the staff to get to know their wines better. The price point is somewhat high at $50 a bottle which is unfortunate as they are pricing themselves out of a big market segment. It might be intentional as the walls are covered in frames with White House menus where their wines were served.
Unpretentious staff. Mark really knows how to handle the late afternoon larger drinking groups. Very good pinots, but some other places have better product (at a higher price of course). If you like sparking wine, this is the place for you.
Bubbly is my fav but the bottles were pricier than I'm comfortable spending for everyday. Tasting was lovely and staff informative. Beautiful gardens but no valley views.
The place was packed on a recent Friday afternoon, and the tasting room is really just a long bar in a long skinny room. Their garden area outside was lovely, however. Argyle wines are very good, and easily purchased outside of Oregon. It's worth a stop especially if you can sit outside.
Every special occasion we buy Argyle brute, a crisp clean bright bubble delight. Not sweet really fresh. Every wine I had sampled was great. I love coming to Dundee for wine tours. Make sure to try a bubble flight!
Sparkling wine is your friend. Can't go wrong here. The POP flight is nothing but bubbles, and that tickles my fancy....and my nose. Go, drink, enjoy!
Argyle Winery is located on Hwy 99 in downtown Dundee. My wife and I were visiting our daughter in Portland and she wanted to go to the Willamette Valley for a wine tour on her day off. Argyle was the last stop of our tour. It is not located in the vineyards but it is centrally located and easy to find. It is located in a nice older house with a garden that shields it from the highway. My wife, daughter and her boyfriend did a tasting but I just watched since I was the designated driver. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a nice place to finish our wine country tour.
