Very disappointing train ride. We had three of us in our group and we were not able to sit together. Train traveled very slow and some scenery on only one side of train. Honestly, the scenery is better driving around the area. Personally, this was a waste of time and money for our group. On the positive side.... the staff was friendly and entertaining.
A group from our church signed up for a special train ride. There was a sheriff and a robber and girls from the saloon prancing through the train every so often. To see us off some cowboys rode their horses along side the train.
Family Friendly, Really Fun! Affordable! Train ride with beautiful scenery, kids got to explore train, lunch and shopping at the stop. Highly Recommend!
We went on the Mother's Day train. You don't see any roads/highways from the train - just great scenery and the river.
This trip along the river was purchased as a gift for me and we thought it was going to be fun and quaint. Instead, it was crowded, boring and the train only moved about 5 miles an hour for the whole time. They say it is where roads do not go and yet we saw houses and even cars across the way. Scenery is just as well seen from your own vehicle. My friend from Hawai'i had never been on a train before and couldn't understand why we had thought it would be fun. Never so glad to get off such a long, slow ride. Disappointing. Not cheap either. Sorry we went. We do laugh about it now though. Aloha.
I just found it to be overpriced, not comfortable, and a bit boring. The scenery is even better if you just drive.
3 1/2 hour train ride along the Grande Ronde River in Oregon where roads do not go. Very pretty scenery, wildlife sightings. The train is staffed by friendly volunteers from the area who love to share their tales. A nice little box lunch is served. It is not fancy, but we felt it was well worth the time and money. When booking through the agent on their web site, you can arrange a very inexpensive room overnight in nearby LaGrande to make it more of a weekend trip. http://eaglecaptrain.com/ They said it is not handicapped accessible, but I think you could do it. Several elderly people who did not walk well were on the trip. Speak with the agent. A dog sitters is also available.
