We were visiting the area and my oldest son is a Arizona fan. So we figured we would make a day of it at a game against Idaho. I had never been to a minor league (or major for that matter) game before in my life! I was very impressed with how the staff and team get the audience (especially kids) involved during breaks. The food was good with good prices and when buying souvenirs, the prices were good and store staff were friendly. We did have to sit in 90 F weather(no shade) for most of the game and it seemed so long getting to the ninth inning with Idaho winning 3-2. But by the bottom of the 9th, the shade moved over to us and the Hops came from behind with a man on base and a home run to make it 4-3! It was a great finish to a great afternoon. Well worth the heat!
Ushers in this park take their job way too seriously, don't try to move over a couple of seats or to an adjacent section even if it's the ninth inning, the seats in that section are the same price as your seats, and that section is completely empty. They will come after you with a vengeance.
If your looking for a fun night out at the ballpark, check out Hops baseball, Hillsboro's Single A team with the Diamondbacks. The park is great, easy to get to and pretty much every seat has a good view of the game. Concessions and beer somewhat reasonably priced, and the staff throughout the park are very friendly.
The ballpark is brand-spanking new and has great food and beers-not just the national brands, but locally-brewed, too. All seats are great, and you can watch on a lovely hillside and bring your own picnic at no charge, which many families did.
This park is small, and it can't attract more than a single A team...but it charges what the stadium in Phoenix charges for seating and food. There are no family packs (you know, buy four tickets, four hot dogs and sodas for one price.) Most of the seats are season ticket holders, who never come...and those are of course, the BEST seats, so you'll never be behind the catcher. The seats aren't available for purchase though no one sits in them. The team is okay, they still love baseball, which makes a huge difference. And you are very close to the action. Their ticketing is slow and arduous. Come an hour before the game to get tickets and seating. They need to hire more ticket folks, put up signs with ticket prices and sections, and do online ordering.
First, the Hops won 9-0! Took my 8-year grandson who loves to participate in all the fun activities like the Bunny Hop (young kids race on the field during the 7th inning stretch behind a big rabbit- so cute) and the dance-with-the-staff break. The game is not taken that seriously but the fans love their team. Just a great time for the family!
