While planning my Oregon vacation earlier this year, I asked my girlfriend what she wanted to do, and she told me that she wanted to go horseback riding. I'm not a horse person, but every now and then, you have to take one for the team. I did a bunch of research, and the Eagle Cap looked to be about the most scenic locale for a ride, so I booked with the Pack Station. I originally signed-up for the all day Ice Lake ride, but I was informed that the trail was in poor condition, so I opted to do the Aneroid Lake ride. It turned out to be a great destination. The lake was very scenic and quiet. The trail to the lake was rocky, which was a little unsettling especially when riding downhill. There was one short section of narrow trail with a steep drop off that left no margin for error, but the horse wanted to stay on the trail as much as I did, so all was good. 'Due to forest fires in the area, it was a bit hazy but beautiful, nonetheless. The ride was about 14 miles roundtrip, and we spent a little less than 2 hours at the lake. The wrangler was friendly. There wasn't much instruction given, however. It was basically just follow the leader. This was a great activity, but your butt needs to be prepared for a long ride if you're going to go out for a full day. My bum was in agony, especially on the way back when my horse started galloping to catch-up with his friends after stopping (repeatedly) for a snack. If you have tender cheeks, an all-day ride might be more than you can handle. My knees hurt too whenever I got off of the horse (I'm only 38); I could barely walk. I think my girlfriend and I felt like we had just completed a marathon by the time we got back to the Pack Station. You wouldn't think sitting on a horse would be so much work. All in all, despite the pain, I would recommend this as an activity if visiting the Eagle Cap. I think my girlfriend got enough of a horse fix on this ride to last her fifty years. I know I did.

I was there for a ride at 10 and showed up at 9:30 when you came in. I was concerned about the business being for sell too and I asked about it. The property is for sale not the lease. If you had to wait only 5 minutes until you had been fed up. Some rides come back late. I had to wait 15 minutes for my ride to take off. And if you say you had a half day scheduled and you come at 9:30 and the ride leaves at 8, you must have herd the wrong time. Always make sure you call when it's closer to you date to double check on times. And if you call about it, you have to think about the office person is also dealing with people who are wanting rides and getting out on rides. So with that you have to be patience. With this business things get off schedule. I enjoyed my ride even though we got out late. Have a good day ma'am!

A HUGE Disappointment! I made reservations on July 28th for a Half Day Trail Ride on Aug 10th at 9:30am. The lady taking my reservation seemed to be too busy to answer my questions, that should have been my first clue. I put it on our vacation calendar of events and told the my husband and kids who were all so super excited! When we walk up I notice the For Sale sign on the fence, clue #2!The only good thing about this place is its location. We camped at Park at the River and were able to walk a short block to Eagle Cap Wilderness Adventures. When we arrive I am told the trail ride that I was scheduled for left at 8am! They apologize for the error and tell me Linda took my reservation and that she is just the owner's sister and it is implied that she "screwed up again" (these words are from one of the trail guides). So the girl sitting at the desk puts us on the schedule for the 1:00pm trail ride and tells us to be there at 12:45 to fill out the waivers. We get there at 12:30, fill out the forms and she tells us to wait out on the loading dock for some horses. We do as we're told...wait for a good 5 minutes without a single instruction, clue #3! Another young lady comes out to inform us that there are not enough horses or guides for the afternoon trail ride! By now steam is blowing out my ears, nose and mouth!!! How many clues do I need?!? But I was good and left without a word! Thus this review! Why tell just them when I can also warn their future guests. If you get the lady on the phone that's in a hurry, call back later to confirm your reservation! And then maybe call again the day before your planned trail ride!

We were the first customers of the 2013 Summer season. We had an absolute blast with Robbie and Kristina. The horses are well trained and absolutely reliable. This is an excellent way to enjoy the beauty of the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The whole experience was a pleasure. We can't wait to come back and bring more friends!

We did a two-hour horseback ride and it was awesome! It was fun to go up the mountainside to a view that we weren't willing to hike to. Ty was entertaining and helpful. It was an expensive splurge, but we thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you want to really enjoy your stay at Wallowa Lake, you must go on a horse ride. $35 an hour or $60 for 2 hours, they also do pack-ins and longer rides. The horses are gentle and won't give you any grief, unless you want to go fast, and you won't because you will want to soak in all the beauty you are riding through. The guides are friendly and loaded with information to share with you. Giddy-yap!
