Great skiing in a small family oriented resort. Downhill skiing, boarding, and nearby at a separate facility Nordic are offered. Snow shoeing can be done at multiple places near the resort as well. OK food (much like any other small ski resort) and served with a smile. The folks are very helpful. Overall a wonderful experience.
The search for snow, prompted my 8 hour drive to Anthony Lakes in Eastern Oregon. This little area has a lot going for it, especially when no one else has much snow in the state. For a single chair area, there is a lot of accessible terrain; some pretty challenging. The snow cat was not operating when I was there, and I didnt find the powder they are so famous for, but it was very ski-worthy. Lift tickets are a great value, and watch for all kinds of specials being offered, such as half-price days, or partner hotels offering discount tickets. Check out Liftopia.com if you are headed there last minute. This area also has some of the friendliest staff and local skiers I have ever found. I was traveling solo, and used the singles line and never once had to stand there without an invite to join the other groups loading onto the chair. I was serenaded at the top of the chair by a lift operator.."All By Myself..." on the one ride I took alone. (Everyone else must have been taking their lunch break?) Young folks and older skiers (like me) were chatty on the chair rides and it seemed like almost everyone was smiling! As it should be when folks are enjoying a day outdoors in a beautiful location, skiing or snow-boarding! I didnt get to it this time, but their extensive Nordic trail system also has a great reputation. In the lodge and the lounge, locals asked where I was from and invited me to join them at their tables. They serve some good local brews in the lounge. Skiing here reminded me of the small family area in Alaska that basically raised my daughters. I will definitely go back if not this winter, than next. Would sure love to check out their famous powder and cat tours!
My husband and I visited here during before New years. He skiied and was impressed by how short the lines were and how great the snow was. He said those around him were complaining about the "crowd", but to us it was small. I was 5 months pregnant so I stayed in the lodge in the morning. Lodge was comfortable if you got a seat early. Later in the afternoon, I hiked the nordic trails and were impressed how few people I ran into. Overall, we had a great experience.
The skiing, family atmosphere, lounge and views are outstanding. The food quality has gone down hill over the last 4-5 years. They offer free camping, some of the best powder in the western US. Hands down the best skiing in oregon. also offer cat ski tours for a reasonable price. Check out nearby places to stay on their website and ask about their ski package offers. Bottom line, this is a MUST visit resort but bring a cooler or grab a pizza from Paizanos on your way up the hill.
Need to expand and update the lounge area but overall everything else is great.
