Samuel Boardman has tons of wonderful beaches as well as hikes. One of our favorite to the dogs is Whale's Head Beach. It is a fairly long for the area and is only accessible by car on one end. This makes letting your dogs run off leash very safe. Local dog owners like to bring their dogs here for that purpose, and I've never had a bad experience with dogs or their owners. It seems everyone is very courteous and respectful of other's space. Whale's Head is also beautiful. At low tide you can see the spout of water generated at the base of the triangular rock, named after the appearance of a whale pocking his head straight us. There are several cold water, year-round creeks that divide the beach into sections. Locals wear boots to wade through these to get to the end before returning to the parking lot.
This is an absolute must see!! And you have to see it in person to realize the immense beauty! Spotted some whales! So cool! Great hiking trails!
We had an adventerous time hiking amoung the many trails in boardman. We loved whaleshead and learning about all the history surrounding the capes within boardman
This is the Oregon Coast at it's finest! The sea stacks here are colossal. The waves crashing upon them was an awesome site to behold! We had the whole beach to ourselves on this cloudy February day. gray and cloudy as it was this beach still was one of the most beautiful sites of our vacation!
One rock formation after another lines this section of the Oregon Coast. You want to stop almost every mile to get out and enjoy the view and to take photos.
We always like to leave plenty of time for walks and drives along the beach and this winter type weather didn't disappoint. Excellent vistas.
There's so much to see here that you could spend the whole day exploring. Be sure to bring your camera, and good walking/hiking shoes. Paths range from easy to "oh-my-gosh-I'll-never-make-it!"
There is a seal colony, tide pools and swallows nesting on the big rocks... and no one was there. Take the time to walk left from the parking/ picnic area. May be some streams running down to the ocean but GO!
The southern Oregon coast is absolutely gorgeous! The trails in the Samuel H Boardman State Park are well maintained. The views are spectacular. My only warning is for those who hike with little ones or with playful dogs that may wonder too close to the sometimes steep drops along the coastal cliffs.
We were lucky with the weather and had a spectacular warm and sunny day. Samuel H. Boardman State Park is more like a scenic road with various places to turn off and see along the way. We were driving north from Brookings through this eleven mile area.We enjoyed Arch Rock, Secret Beach, China Beach, Whaleshead Beach, House Rock Viewpoint and the various other sights in this spectacular park area.It is a beautiful area along the Oregon coast. We were given a hand out of the features of the area when we checked out of our Best Western Hotel in Brookings which was helpful for our drive through the area.
WOW is the word! This place is amazing and exceeded all my expectations. If you appreciate stunning coastal scenery then you have to see this park if you're touring the southern Oregon Coast. It's also a goldmine for landscape photographers. Where do I begin?? There are multiple pullouts/viewpoints along the corridor, our favorites were Arch Rock viewpoint, Natural Bridge and Treasure Cove (I think). We also took a hike down to China Beach for a picnic lunch. Some of the hiking was rather strenuous and the trails can be confusing at times but you DON'T have to hike to enjoy this place. You can simply just pull over at the viewpoints and admire the scenery. In some cases there was a short loop trail but that's it. We have driven the Road to Hana in Maui and this place ranks right up there with that in terms of scenic beauty. Must See!!!
As a photographer I can tell you that Boardman State Park is one of the jewels of the Pacific Coast. Very much like the Big Sur area of California with better access to the viewpoints and beaches.
Love the coast of Oregon and the parks offer the best trails and views. Look for sea stars at low tide, Puffins in the larger ocean surrounded rock formations, lots of paths and trails for every ability, amazing sunrise and sunset Kodak moments, stroll along the waters edge for miles and bring a picnic as there are always picnic tables scattered around. Some areas have ramps and most have restrooms available. Incredible beauty and loads of room for kids to run and explore.
This is such a beautiful area don't miss it. Take the time to pullover at many of the waysides or you will miss some of the most breath taking scenery. If you can, hike the costal trail where you will go through the forest and see amazing ocean vistas and beautiful foliage. Bring water, snacks etc. because there is nothing between Gold Beach and Brookings but that is why it is so beautiful.
The eleven miles of Samuel Board Scenic Corridor provides a network of loop trails that afford jaw-dropping vistas of the incredible southern Oregon coast. Bring your camera and be sure to charge your battery.
