We weren't planning on staying at The Dalles but sure glad we did. We sae the 'big' Sunshine Mill mural when we arrived into town - checked into our room and headed over to the Mill. The gal (i have her name at home) that was pouring tastes/serving was super sweet and knowledgable and we could tell she was proud of the whole Mill and loved being there and sharing the history - took us on a mini tour to the 'castle tempurature' room below :) ... it was great afternoon there. My husband loved it too- lots of 'engineering' stuff to look at - We will be back! p.s. the best part was we happened to be there when the Four professional ladies Valentine's Day singers came in to sing to the gal taste /server (so bad, i can't remember her name) a Vday song from her love - along with flowers and balloons - and then they came back with a bigger bouqet for her, we all had happy tears for her,,,it was great!!! Everyone was enjoying themselves. The grounds are very well kept too - beautiful day! thank you!
Not only are the wines excellent, but the facility is a marvel - it was fun to inspect all the old machinery (look for the "Man Lift!!").
What a great find! For us and for the owners of this lovely spot! They have done a classy and impressive job at making this old grain mill look hip and inviting. Some wine was good, others not so much, but the staff were friendly and knowledgable. Their passion for their product shows through.
My wife and I stopped in yesterday for the first time at Sunshine Winery. The tasting room attendants were very professional. The small plates are delicious! Both my wife and I were very impressed. We thoroughly enjoyed the wines and of the building is an experience by itself. Thanks for the fun times!
We were staying overnight in the Dalles on our way to the gorge. It was my partners birthday on this particular day so decided to go wine tasting for a few hours...this place is very conveniently located in the Center of the Dalles with loads of parking. The building is a stunning old red brick mill with lots of nice touches inside, lots to look at and a really laid back feel. We had a stunning Anti pasti platter & some nice wines to taste! The service was exceptional & we were given lots of very informative explanations on each. It was served in nice steady intervals & all were very welcoming. We purchased one of there bottles when leaving & had a really nice time here. We genuinely had a great time here & it was a nice day for my Fiancé birthday.
I enjoyed most of the wines that I tried and loved all the antiques and things decorating this historic old mill. I particularly enjoyed the Viognier and the older vintage offered (there were two when I was there) of their "Redd Red" red blend. I did not try any food while there but I noticed the antipasto platter that another group enjoyed looked very ample. I would visit again.
This is not your usual run-of-the-mill winery. Situated in an old grain tower, the winery is now home to where the flour was once milled for the well-known Cheez-It crackers. Enjoy your glass of wine while poking about, as there is plenty of history hiding in the nooks and crannies of the Mill. And, don't limit your tour to the indoors; there is also a quaint bocci court and charming outbuilding with a small bar on the property. (You may also be fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of Copa Di Vino founder James Martin, made "famous" on NBC's Shark Tank.) Hungry? Order one of the appetizers (we like the cheese board), and relax on the Mill's comfy retro sofa or outside on the patio. Be sure to grab a beach bucket or variety pack of Copa as a souvenir on your way out!
This was a unique experience. This is actually in the old Sunshine bakery factory where some of the crackers were produced and there is no vineyard or winemaking done here, but I really enjoyed the old environment and looking at a lot of the old equipment they had on display. It is sort of a wine tasting/museum experience. They will credit the cost of the wine tasting, currently $7 toward the purchase of a bottle of wine, or you can choose a small carafe to take with you as part of the cost.
Very unique winery in an old grain tower. On Fridays during the summer everyone can go to a free movie shown on the face of the tower. Sit on the grass or bring your own chair and enjoy the good food and wine.
We arrived at the Sunshine Mill to a fairly empty place, ordered the red wine tasting for 7 bucks. I had to wait literally ten minutes in between each "swig" of wine, because it really was only a swallow, and I ended up only receiving 4 of the 5 tastes I was supposed to get. My waitress, Kelsey seemed more interested in cleaning up after the non existent customers than paying attention to the fact that it would take me only seconds to down the tiny amount of wine that I paid basically $1.75 per sip for.....The Antipasto platter of food was good but was delivered by some guy from the back who stated "I think this is yours, but I wasn't expecting to be the one delivering it to the table." ??? What? That was awkward. The waitress seemed to become aware that we were less than impressed with the service and the so-called "wine tasting" and came over to inform me that the tasting came with a "complementary" Copa di Vino glass of pre-packaged wine. The waitress stated that our mozzarella balls on our platter were olives...when another waitress corrected her, she laughed and said, oops, my bad. All in all the experience was sub-par and I do not recommend going to this establishment. This was my first time at the Sunshine Mill Winery and I came in excited to experience it, and I left severely disappointed and it will be my last visit there.
Winery was former home of Cheese it's -very cool and relaxed atmosphere, good wine. Antipasto plater was good and we liked the Riesling and Redd Red. Definitely worth stopping and sampling:)
We arrived for a tasting around 4:30 PM on a Monday and ended up staying until 5:50PM. The hot brie platter hit the spot and tasty with all varieties of wines we tasted. Mary is a great hostess and was engaged with us and the other couple tasting for our entire time there. A delightful, uniquely decorated facility with a great history.
Loved the atmosphere of the winery. The female owner was absolutely welcoming. I absolutely loved the Nirvana and had to buy a couple bottles of it. The food was also spectacular.
The most amazing unique atmosphere and distinctive wine. They have the best Pinot Gris I've ever tasted. I suggest this to anyone.
After doing many wineries in the area one of our target locations based on our research was sunshine mills. The wine was very good, some of the best we have tried. The pours were ok size and the only $7 for the wine tasting. We ordered the cheese plate and it was just what we needed to fill in between meals. Good selection of cheeses server with artesian bread and crackers.Would good again...!
