The kids had a blast learning from Becca. It was a great place and not a far drive from south lake tahoe. Easy riding if your looking for a relaxing trail ride.
I wish Sheridan Creek was available when my children were small. It has a wonderful reputation in the Carson Valley and is respected by true horseman as well.
You might not think riding a horse would be peaceful and relaxing, but with fantastic weather, a great guide, and perfect horses, it couldn't be anything but. Becca, the guide, was great! She was very accommodating in getting the ride together after some issues and then was fun to ride and talk with along the way. The ranch ride is a slow walk through their fields. The horses certainly know the way. Being horses, they still need some encouragement to keep going and not stop and smell, er, eat the roses. It wasn't tough to get them going. They were very easy to ride. They offer other rides for advanced riders and I'd look into those for sure. Getting on a horse and out in the open, this ranch ride was perfect.
We wandered through their fields with Becca. This isn't a trail ride and you actually get to ride the horses vs. just following one another. We only went for an hour but I'm sure they do longer rides. The horses were well maintained and this is close to Tahoe for a quick trip over the hill.Have fun.
My family and I were recently visiting Lake Tahoe, and my 13 year old girls wanted to try horseback riding. There are several choices in the Tahoe area, but then I came across the Sheridan Creek Equestrian Center through a Travelzoo deal. It advertised a one hour ride, for 2 people for $39. An excellent price! I checked out their website and it does indeed clarify on there that the Travelzoo deal is good for a "ranch ride", which is essentially an hour long ride around their huge (100 acre?) pasture. Since my girls had never ridden a horse previously this was actually perfect for them. A nice way for them to become familiar with a horse, and have the experience of riding one in a fairly controlled setting, without the worry of them off on a mountainous trail ride. I sent an email to the company through their website, and received a phone call from them within 24 hours to set up a reservation time. It was quick and easy. When we arrived at the ranch, the gate was closed but there is a code clearly posted to gain entry into the area. We were met by Becca (I think that was her name) who was there working in the barn. We showed up for our reservation about 15 minutes early, but she was happy to get us started. After signing a brief waiver, the girls rode Chief and Gunther (sp?) and they loved it. Helmets were provided for their safety. It was a hot day, and my girls were wearing shorts from an activity earlier in the day. I had packed them jeans for the ride but accidentally left them at home. I was worried they wouldn't be able to ride in shorts, but Becca said it was okay. The town of Gardnerville, NV is a nice place, and only about a 35 minute drive from where we'd been staying in South Lake Tahoe. It's a great place to go for beginners to take the ranch ride or for more experienced riders to sign up for the trail ride.
My husband and I were able to enjoy a picturesque ride through the property of Sheridan Creek Equestrian Center yesterday. Rachel was our guide and made us feel comfortable and safe as we rode, pointing out sights on the grounds and telling us facts about our mounts. The horses were picked for our expertise, which was beginner. I would recommend this facility to families and I personally plan to go and ride again! Thank you for a fun adventure!
Wonderful location for trail riding on a ranch surrounded by picturesque mountains. Not too far from Lake Tahoe and a great outing for adults and children alike. You must make reservation for time slot so that someone is available. The lady was friendly and helpful. However they shortchanged us by ten minutes in one hour ride. We will definitely go again.
Sheridan Creek is located on high desert with a backdrop of majestic mountains. Quite a beautiful place! I went riding twice during the week I was at Stateline---an easy 15 minute drive. I rode with Katherine and Kaitlin and both women were friendly and fun. They couldn't have been more accommodating. The horse they chose for me was responsive and easy to manage. A really nice experience. Can't wait to return.Karen
My family came for a trail ride here. It was a great ride, our guide was very friendly and walked along with my kids on the ride. They haven't stopped talking about it and we will be back. :-) also not sure about the other reviews but I had no issues getting someone on the phone.
I am very sorry that you didnt enjoy your ride while you were at our place. We do strive very hard to take care of all of our clients and it doesnt seem that you feel that your needs were met. I was wondering who your instructor was if you dont mind me asking? I would also like to offer you another free ride if you are interested in that. Once again my apologies. My email address is sheridancreekequestrian@gmail.comthanks,Kristen
My little girl (who just turned 7) literally begs me to take her here for lessons. She has been several times this year and adores thier horses and both of the trainers she has had there. We've never had an issue at all. They let her feed the horse baby carrots and apple slices afterwards, which is really fun for her too. This place is so nice, I cheerfully drive an hour to and from for our lessons. There is one horse place close to here that offers the same type of lessons that we went to this summer too ONCE. The horses at the other place didn't look very happy, which really upset me. But, the horses here always look happy and healthy and are very nice with kids. Trainers were knoweledgable and safe and friendly.
Sheridan Creek is a wonderful horse facility, whether you board your own horse or want to ride without owning. Kristen's staff are knowledgable, patient, friendly and fun. Their horses are well trained and carefully matched to the rider. We had a number of lessons this summer for our 11 yr old, 8 yr old, and 7 yr old granddaughters. They loved the horses, the lessons and the staff. The oldest has also done some fun trail rides there. I don't think you will find a better, more beautiful and more friendly equestrian center anywhere. It is exceptionally clean and well kept. And the views are spectacular.
What a beautiful, clean and well kept facility Sheridan Creek Equestrian Center is. The people and horses are wonderful. Kristen, the owner, takes a lot of pride in what she does and it shows throughout the entire facility. She is fantastic with the children and adults and makes them feel very comfortable around and on the horses. She makes sure everyone is safe and makes that a priority. Everyone is started off with being introduced to the horses. Once everyone is ready and is wearing a helmet, they are helped getting on their horse and again made sure everything is safe before going on the trail ride. They make sure you know how to stop, and turn the horse. This is not your typical trail riding company, where you are in a group of 10+ people riding in a line where you barely can talk to eachother or can't hear what the trail guide is saying. This is a very welcoming, warm and calm atmosphere. The horses here are very well cared for and happy. After their ride they have plenty of hay and water to snack on while the staff lets everyone brush the horses. The horses are very friendly and very child friendly. Patient with everyone and everything going on. Along with the beautiful property and stables is a gorgeous indoor arena that has a bathroom as well.
First of all I would like to say that I am sorry you did not have a good experience. I would, however, like correct a few things that were not exactly accurate in this review. The first and foremost one is that the gate is not locked, but only closed to keep the horses from getting out onto a busy street. The gate code is actually written right next to the keypad that the customer used to try and call us. The person who let this customer in was my dad as we both saw that he did not see the code written on the plaque for some reason. We do not accept credit cards not because we don't give refunds, but because they charge us a large percentage.we have fixed the reservation issue by providing our customers with the ability to access our calender online and fill out a reservation there. Please also note that this customer paid a discounted price and that is why they were not able to go into the mountains. Groupon has a picture of the ranch ride on their ad which is taken on our property. We also have a disclaimer on our website which is in bold underline explaining which ride they are buying along with a video of the ride:http://www.sheridancreekequestriancenter.com/Trail_Riding.phpSafety, however, is our number one priority and we probably wouldn't have advised that this customer went into the mountains even if they had paid full price because their youngest member was not an experienced rider. Our mountain rides are for accomplished riders and are not your typical nose to tail ride. We do apologize for the weather issue unfortunately that friday it only rained about 2.5 hours out of the day and was previously almost 100 degrees. The weather may have been different where you were at, but it certainly wasnt raining all day in the valley as we gave 8 other rides that day to happy customers. I hope you have happy trails in the future!
I am sorry you were unhappy with you ride. Please, however, do note that on our website it does clearly state that the discounted ride is not our mountain ride. We do take people into the mountains on our full ticket priced ride and would love to have you back for that one in the future. Thanks,Kristen
